Salary: Contact hours are paid at a multiplier of 2.5 basic hours for group teaching to include preparation time spent in the classroom delivering teaching, class preparation; course administration; totalling £56.96/ £67.49 (basic hourly rate starts from £23.46 per hour, inclusive of London Allowance). Marking is paid at the basic hourly rate using plain time hours (from £23.46) and is part of the teaching contract.

About the Department: The Department of Gender Studies at SOAS is an interdisciplinary space promoting research and teaching on gender and sexuality with particular reference to Asia, Africa, the Middle East and their diasporas. Building on the work of our precursor, the Centre for Gender Studies, we at the Department place radical social transformation at the centre of our teaching and research, bringing together transnational, decolonial, abolitionist, and intersectional approaches to engage with urgent struggles of our time: border abolition, decolonial liberation, anti-racism, queer and trans feminisms, and resistance to the rise of the global right.
About the Role: SOAS Department of Gender Studies seeks a Graduate Teaching Assistant or Teaching Fellow to lead tutorials for two of compulsory modules associated with our MA programmes: Gender Theory and the Study of Asia, Africa and the Middle East (Semester 1) and Feminist Theory and the Study of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East (Semester 2).
We are seeking GTAs or teaching fellows who have finished or are at an advanced stage of a doctoral programme, and with a strong background in gender and queer theory. Priority will be given to those with an academic background in gender/queer studies, but those from related fields with a strong grounding in relevant theory will be considered. A background teaching postgraduate students is desirable, although not required.
We are looking for tutors with strong communication skills who are confident teaching native and non-native English speakers from around the globe, and helping students navigate complex theories and sensitive subjects.
