About the Role

This post is designed to help the academic leads of the College of Law Clinical and Pro Bono programme at SOAS. The clinics give students the opportunity to work with legal supervision to provide advice to people in immigration detention and other areas of law.

The holder of this post must be a SOAS student.

The role involves

  • Written and verbal communication with clinic student participants, lawyers and other stakeholders
  • Organising clinic files and helping maintain confidentiality of sensitive documents
  • Assisting in organising operational matters of the clinic (e.g, event co-ordination, room booking, transportation)
  • Other general administrative tasks associated with the work of the clinic
  • Providegeneral administrative support to the College of Law director of clinical legal education and supervisors of all clinics;
  • Assist in the selection of participants in the clinical legal education and pro bono placements;
  • Use the data management system, CLIO;
  • Provide CLIO training to participant students;
  • Handle incoming documentation, including client files maintaining digital and paper case files securely;
  • Communicate with participants regarding issues related to the SOAS clinics; and
  • Perform other administrative tasks necessary for the functioning of the clinics

As the role runs over 30 weeks per year for two years but entails a small number of hours per week, the role would be ideal for a current SOAS postgraduate taught or postgraduate research student in search for a meaningful but relatively light weekly commitment.
