About The Department
The SOAS Language Centre provides high-quality language teaching to SOAS students and the wider public through its extensive extramural programme. It offers a diverse range of languages, including those from Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, as well as tailored tuition for individuals, small groups and corporate clients. The Centre is known for its practical, engaging approach to language learning and its commitment to accessibility for learners from a wide range of backgrounds.
About The Role
The post holder will support the Language Centre’s diverse team and assist with general administrative activities. Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting with student registration
- Database maintenance
- Answering student queries from the initial point of enquiry through to course completion
- Data collection
- Ensuring that the student experience is prioritised and a high-quality service is provided
The post holder will work closely with the Academic Support Manager, the Data Support Officer, and the Language Coordinator(s).
About You
You should be a motivated and highly organised administrator with excellent interpersonal communication skills. Attention to detail and an ability to manage your own time and work independently in a methodical manner is essential. You should be able to deal with changing demands and meet deadlines. A proven knowledge of Microsoft Office is required. You should have experience working in a busy customer‑facing administrative role with evidence of having planned and supported activities that involve direct interaction or contact with clients or students, dealing with fees, taking bookings, raising refunds, and maintaining administrative processes and databases.

Successful candidates will need to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK or have limited leave to remain in the UK and associated right to work for the duration of their employment with SOAS, in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006.
