Based at our Leicester workshop, this role offers the opportunity to work on pieces for private homes, hotels and interior projects worldwide. As part of a skilled team of craftspeople, you will use specialist fabrication, brazing and finishing techniques to produce work of exceptional quality. We are seeking an experienced Metal Finisher and Fabricator who takes pride in their craft and is committed to continual improvement. As the workshop develops, there will be scope to assume greater responsibility and contribute to its future direction and expansion. Purpose of the Position
The role is responsible for the fabrication and finishing of brass components to a very high standard for use within our lighting workshop, ensuring quality standards and the production schedule are maintained. Working alongside the Senior Finishing Specialist, the successful candidate will help deliver outstanding designs to agreed QC specifications, on time and within budget. The ideal candidate will also possess experience in brazing and hot and cold patination processes.
Due to the nature of the small team in Leicester, the role requires a can-do attitude, and the candidate must be willing to tackle tasks, be enthusiastic and self-motivated. A flexible and team-oriented approach is essential, as the successful candidate will occasionally support other workshop functions to maintain workflow, meet production deadlines and contribute to the overall success of the Leicester operation. This role is suitable for someone with a keen eye for detail and the ability to achieve the high standards for which Soane Britain is well known.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Fabrication and assembly of brass components according to detailed manufacturing drawings and specifications
- Brazing and finishing of brass furniture and lighting components to Soane quality standards
- Carrying out hot and cold patination processes approved for Soane samples and finishes
- Inspecting components throughout production to ensure accuracy, quality and tolerance standards are met
- Supporting efficient workflow within the workshop to meet production schedules and weekly targets
- Maintaining workshop equipment, tools and general housekeeping standards
- Ensuring safe working practices are followed and maintaining a clean working environment
- Assisting with other workshop activities and processes as required
Qualifications for the Position
- Previous experience in a similar fabrication and finishing role within a manufacturing environment, ideally in furniture and/or lighting
- Experience in brazing is essential
- Experience with metal finishing processes, including hot and cold patination
- Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings accurately
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to high-quality craftsmanship
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- Positive, proactive attitude with the ability to work collaboratively within a small team
- Experience or interest in electrical wiring would be advantageous
- Interest in, or appreciation for, luxury furniture, lighting and British craftsmanship is desirable
Working hours: Monday to Thursday 8 AM to 5 PM, Friday 8 AM to 1 PM
