We are seeking a full-time upholsterer with up to 4 years’ experience to join our upholstery workshop in Thurmaston, Leicester. The successful candidate will receive full training and guidance with our Master Upholsterer on all Soane designs from highly skilled craftspeople using high quality and sustainable materials.

Purpose of the Position: Working alongside our highly skilled Master upholsterer and upholstery team, you will be responsible for the preparation for the upholstery of client and internal orders to a pre‑approved standard with the materials and processes specified. As a member of the team, you will also assist in ad‑hoc workshop tasks including tidying, moving and stocking up on materials.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The successful candidate will dedicate themselves to a training period in which they will assist in the preparation and upholstery of furniture according to Soane Britain's specifications and quality standards.
  • You will apply traditional and modern upholstery techniques under the mentorship of an experienced master upholsterer to clients and internal orders to maintain a consistent output of quality upholstered furniture.
  • You will work with a variety of materials, including responsibly sourced fabrics, leathers, and fillings, to create products that meet Soane Britain’s commitment to sustainability and excellence.
  • You will maintain a clean and organised work environment in accordance with health and safety guidelines.

Qualifications for the Position:

  • A Diploma or other qualification in upholstery is desirable but not required.
  • Ideally 4 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Proficient in the use of upholstery tools.
  • Experience ideally in both traditional and modern upholstery methods.
  • Extensive insight of upholstery preparation and bodywork.
  • A good understanding of fabric and leather, including their selection and application.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to achieving the exceptional standards for which Soane Britain is renowned.
  • Proactive and self‑motivated with a can‑do attitude, willing to actively contribute to the team and take initiative when necessary.
  • An enthusiasm for furniture making, willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Takes a safety conscious approach to work with an understanding of the safe use of workshop machinery, hand and air tools.

Hours of work: Monday – Thursday 8am-5pm, Friday 8am-1pm.
