The Role

Reporting to our People Director, we are looking for a PMO Lead on a maternity cover to lead the strategic delivery, governance, and coordination of the business’s performance driving initiatives, projects, and programmes of work, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and long-term value. This role goes beyond traditional project execution to act as a strategic enabler, aligning the PMO with business priorities, driving cross-functional planning and delivery, and embedding agile governance frameworks. It plays a critical role in improving portfolio visibility, enhancing KPI tracking and reporting, and fostering a culture of accountability and change readiness across the organisation.

Why So Energy?

So Energy was created in 2015 because we knew energy suppliers could be better. Since then, we’ve grown rapidly but sustainably, with 300,000 customers and over 450 Energists (what we call our people). We’re on the road to a net-zero future, and thanks to our partnership with ESB, we’re well on the way. We’re customer-centric, tech-led, and passionate about sustainability. We’re driven to do our best for our customers, for each other, and for our planet. That’s why we’ve built a workplace culture that’s supportive, empowering, inclusive, and full of opportunities to grow and make an impact. At So Energy, we take pride in our values-driven culture. We live and breathe by our six core values that guide everything we do:

  • Clear
  • Honest
  • Ambitious
  • Inquisitive
  • Caring
  • Sustainable

What you’ll be getting up to in this role:

  • Strategic Portfolio Delivery & Planning
    • Lead the development and execution of a strategic portfolio planning framework, ensuring initiatives are prioritised against business objectives, value, and delivery capacity.
    • Establish and maintain a rolling planning and delivery cadence that enables continuous alignment, agile decision-making, and cross-functional visibility; a centralised view that enables the right focus and decisions.
    • Design, implement, and oversee governance structures and portfolio tracking tools to drive transparency, accountability, and proactive risk management.
    • Partner closely with Technology, Commercial, and Operations teams to provide a unified view of delivery performance and business impact.
  • PMO Leadership & Project Management Best Practices
    • Mentor and develop a high-performing PMO team with a focus on capability growth and accountability.
    • Define and embed best practices for project delivery, risk management, and project assurance. Promote a culture of continuous learning through lessons learned, shared practices, and feedback loops.
    • Oversee project delivery quality across the portfolio, ensuring consistency in standards, documentation, and governance.
    • Coach and support Project Managers and Associates to build capability, remove blockers, and drive continuous improvement in delivery practices.
    • Facilitate structured reviews and retrospectives to ensure learnings are captured and applied to future initiatives.
    • Ensure stakeholders are positively engaged on existing PMO delivery/performance plus any future evolutions such that we meet the business where they are and get right buy-in for shared success.
    • Drive a principle-based, team-led approach that encourages ownership within stakeholder teams and enables leaner admin/management from PMO.
  • Change Management & Business Readiness
    • Act as the key interface between delivery and customer operations teams with regards to initiative delivery of significant change work, such that there is alignment, effective collaboration and better overall results.
    • Design operational blueprint to bring to life the business way of working and governance structures to provide greater visibility, delivery and change adoption.
    • Note and apply learnings that could be applied in shaping with others how change is effectively managed at So Energy, taking ownership for the PMO delivery aspects of such.
  • Governance, Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Lead the preparation and delivery of executive-level portfolio updates, ensuring clarity of progress, risks, and outcomes.
    • Design enterprise-level forums and planning sessions to shape and support wider organisational priorities.
    • Contribute to Business Review Meeting (BRM) sessions and lead weekly strategic, operational, and commercial review meetings to maintain alignment and pace.
    • Maintain consistent reporting standards, ensuring outcomes, benefits, and KPIs are transparent and actionable.
