As a Senior Manager, Engineering at Snyk you will be a member of the wider Engineering Team and will drive processes to enable the team to achieve goals, solve challenges effectively, and deliver predictably. Within this role you will track, predict, and course-correct project status, drive communication of progression, possible issues, and team capacity. You will be responsible for driving processes across the group and facilitating team collaboration and coach direct reports to grow their skills and career. This is a high-impact, strategic role for a leader who is excited by complex technical challenges.
You’ll Spend Your Time:
- Drive the creation of a long-term strategic roadmap for the team and its partners, socialize it with the team and stakeholders, create a plan for execution and make progress on the roadmap.
- Influence the group strategy and drive cross-team execution.
- Facilitate the smooth running of the team’s agile ceremonies.
- Drive the team’s successful delivery of the sprint, quarterly plan, and long term goals.
- Track plan progression and identify gaps and future requirements.
- Communicate status and course correction suggestions.
- Establish clear goals and KPIs for individuals and the team, provide ongoing coaching, and implement processes to enable forward movement of the team.
- Build a knowledge-sharing environment where teammates proactively help each other.
- Hands on coding as needed, including code review.
- Coach direct reports through productive feedback, building on strengths and addressing areas of development.
- See the broader picture and approach topics with a high-level mindset.
- Serve as role model and advisor to Engineers and Engineering Managers.
- Grow leaders in the team.
- Build trust with direct reports, amongst the team, and between teams across the division.
What You’ll Need:
- At least 5 years of experience in software engineering, with significant experience managing a high-performing engineering team.
- Proficient with team tech stack and advanced system design.
- Able to contribute to coding, as needed, and conduct code reviews.
- Deep understanding of the team product and how it aligns with business needs.
- Experienced in coaching direct reports through productive feedback, building on strengths and addressing areas of development.
- Confident in challenging engineers to be innovative and creatively problem solve.
- Able to lead by example for individual contributors in the team, demonstrate how to execute responsibilities and be successful in their role, with patience and understanding.
- Coach other managers in the organization.
- Program management of large, cross-functional effort.
- Significant influence across R&D – e.g., leading a guild that has created a substantial change.
- Demonstrated impact over time delivering complex/cross-functional initiatives.
- Grow the future leaders within the team.
- Strong cross-team collaboration, organizational and communication skills.
