The Entry Level Survey Technician will support surveyors and project teams in the collection, processing, and management of spatial and measurement data across a range of projects. Based in Whitehaven, the role provides an excellent opportunity to develop practical surveying skills through on-the-job training, site experience, and exposure to modern surveying technologies. This position is ideal for someone at the start of their career who is keen to learn, develop technical capability, and work safely in challenging site environments.
Your role
- Assist with site-based surveying activities, including setting out, measurement, and data capture.
- Support the use of surveying equipment such as total stations, GPS/GNSS, laser scanners, and levels.
- Help collect, check, and record survey data accurately and in line with project requirements.
- Assist with processing survey data using specialist software and producing basic outputs (drawings, models, reports).
- Maintain survey equipment and ensure it is stored, handled, and calibrated correctly.
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures, particularly in controlled or safety‐critical environments.
- Work collaboratively with surveyors, engineers, and project teams.
- Attend training, toolbox talks, and development activities as required.
- Support general site activities, including preparation, documentation, and quality checks.
About you

- A strong interest in surveying, engineering, construction, or geospatial disciplines.
- Willingness to work on site and outdoors in varying conditions.
- Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to tasks.
- Basic IT skills (e.g. Microsoft Office).
- Strong communication skills and ability to follow instructions.

Qualifications & Experience

- BTEC, T Level, NVQ, or college qualification in Surveying, Construction, Engineering, or a related subject.
- Relevant work experience, placement, or apprenticeship (not essential).
