Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and shape a multidisciplinary team of engineers to deliver technical design work on complex D & B projects, ensuring compliance with national and project‑specific design codes and standards.
  • Contribute to business operational activities, including hiring, line management, business development and client management.
  • Drive the development of project design deliverables across all aspects of the programme, collaborating with discipline leads and project management to manage time and budgets against key milestones.
  • Manage production, review and approve technical deliverables such as design reports, drawings, calculations and scopes of work.
  • Provide technical leadership within the discipline for the regional and national D & AT practice, influencing practice‑wide initiatives and recommending best practices to improve internal processes.
  • Grow, develop and manage Design Management capabilities within the practice, particularly for D & B contracts.
  • Work independently, exercising personal judgement to solve difficult problems and providing guidance to all team members.
  • Advise on client, operational, project or service activities within project teams and across the D & AT practice.
  • Lead, manage or collaborate on technical aspects of bid proposals.
  • Inspire and lead a global multi‑disciplinary team to deliver integrated design solutions.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Civil Water Engineering or equivalent.
  • Chartered Civil Engineer.
  • Proven experience leading large‑scale engineering design delivery for a design consultancy within a multi‑disciplinary environment.
  • Strong understanding of design management, with broad knowledge of hydraulics, wastewater, clean water infrastructure, water reuse, pipelines and related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated expertise in risk assessment, quality control, proactive design management and change management.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to convey complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
  • Expert knowledge of current design codes and standards, including CDM Regulations, Eurocodes, water utility standards and NEC.
  • Proficiency in analytical software and tools such as AutoCAD, CDEs, Microsoft Office suite, Power BI and other management software.
  • Experience in the Water market and design & build projects is essential; knowledge of other markets is a plus.
  • Proactive, agile, highly motivated mindset with a collaborative approach and ability to liaise with stakeholders at all levels.
