Job Description Overview

AtkinsRéalis Transportation Business is recruiting a Senior/Principal Engineer to join our Central Rail Systems Alliance (CRSA). The role delivers multi‑million rail core and enhancement projects in the Eastern or Northwest & Central Regions, working with multidisciplinary teams across the rail environment.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver civil design packages for core renewals and enhancement schemes.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to achieve fully integrated designs.
  • Support management of design packages and entire projects.
  • Assist with project resourcing and financial control to ensure profitable delivery.
  • Ensure delivery in line with programme targets and quality assurance systems.
  • Document and review high quality design outputs, including sketches, drawings, calculations, reports and specifications.

Qualifications and Experience

  • BEng, MEng or MSc in civil engineering (or candidate willing to progress to one).
  • Incorporated/Chartered status and corporate membership of ICE or IStructE (or willingness to pursue).
  • Relevant industry experience in major construction and/or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary design within the rail sector.

Required Skills

  • Oversee and review high quality design documentation.
  • Perform technical reviews of designs and challenge ideas for robustness.
  • Build strong relationships with Assurance and Construction teams.
  • Interpret and apply design standards such as Eurocodes and Network Rail specifications.
  • Develop and agree on scopes, budgets, programmes and quality objectives for deliverables.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, strong communication and stakeholder management.
  • Innovate and lead peers to innovative solutions and improvements.
  • Support training and professional development for the CRSA team.
  • Strong organisational and collaborative teamwork skills.
