Responsibilities
- Promptly inform line management of any safety, sustainability, or wellbeing concerns.
- Support the integration of Safety, Wellbeing, and Environment & Sustainability Plans into projects and the supply chain.
- Maintain regular site visibility to identify good practices and areas for improvement, reporting findings to HSE and Project Management teams.
- Provide assurance that legislation, standards, KPIs, dashboards, and plans are being monitored and embedded in projects.
- Represent AtkinsRéalis at project/construction HSE meetings with clients, contractors, and sub-contractors to identify risks and arrange safety controls.
- Monitor Power BI Dashboard Reports to ensure performance targets are met and implement corrective measures as needed.
- Ensure project teams and contractors comply with CDM regulations, HSE legislation, and client standards.
- Implement and maintain site-specific project inductions and HSE plans.
- Investigate and report injuries, incidents, and close calls in line with client and Atkins standards.
- Plan and conduct internal and external inspections and audits for compliance, including RISQS and Principal Contractors Licence.
- Demonstrate knowledge of ISO9001, ISO14001, and ISO45001.
- Support the development and review of HSE management systems and SharePoint sites.
- Train staff and employees on procedures and improvement techniques.
- Coordinate management systems and provide advice, support, and guidance to the Project Management team.
- Inspire personal responsibility for safety and deliver safety leadership and initiatives.
- Advise on safe and environmentally sound work methods and systems.
- Arrange safety induction training for all new starters.
- Act immediately on any breach of rules, unsafe situations, or environmental threats.
- Support other HSE team members during absences.
Qualifications
- NEBOSH Diploma (mandatory); NEBOSH Certificate (construction desirable).
- Chartered IOSH membership (desirable).
- Strong communication skills.
- Extensive knowledge of ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001.
- Experience in investigations, management systems, and the railway/construction industry.
- Environmental qualification (IEMA desirable).
- Awareness of behavioural safety programmes (desirable).
- Capable of identifying HSE improvement opportunities.
