Overview

Be trusted to turn ambition into reality. We know that different people have different priorities, which is why we are here to support you. Flexible and remote working is a central part of our culture. So talk to us about what is ideal for you – from reduced weeks to buying more leave over school holidays. And if you are returning from a career break, ask us how we can help you transition back into work with us.

We are looking for an ambitious and energetic individual to play a role in and grow our offering in regulation, assurance and water resources businesses, contributing to a wide range of technical projects across our Infrastructure business. Regulated water companies are incentivised to improve and deliver for their customers and the wider environment. We add value to this through our advisory and technical assurance activities helping our clients to address regulatory challenges. The role is interesting as it will cut across a number of different technical areas from water resources strategy, to regulatory assurance of water company plans, to advisory services in economic regulation (in water and other utilities). You will work across several highly respected technical teams, drawing in their expertise, to allow you to deliver and grow our reputation for technical excellence. You will work collaboratively to win and deliver work both in the UK and internationally.

Your Role

  • You will have the opportunity to play a leading role in the delivery of projects covering all aspects of water resources strategy (including supporting clients with all aspects of delivery of statutory plans, or delivering research projects with UKWIR, WaterUK, etc.), audit, technical assurance and price reviews, technical / asset management, and economic regulation.
  • You will work collaboratively with people across our Environment business, and with other AtkinsRéalis businesses and a range of professionals (engineers, scientists, environmental scientists, customer service specialists, economists) to provide a consistent and integrated service to our clients. You will also support with enquiries and provide key input to proposals for the future success of the business.
  • You will be required to contribute to the production of high quality client- and public-facing deliverables, demonstrated through excellence in communication and ability to tailor and deliver to different audiences, e.g. Audit Committees and Boards, Customer groups, Investors and Regulators.

About You

  • You will have growing and varied experience of either working in or with water companies in a regulatory environment, including investment and business plans or in reporting of performance.
  • You will have experience and understanding of planning, engineering and regulatory considerations for utilities.
  • Your technical background could be in one or more of Water, Wastewater, Water Resources, Water Quality and/or economics.
  • An appreciation of the regulatory side of a utility business (capital and operational expenditure, investment planning, charges setting) linked to your technical expertise is desirable.
  • Experience of technical auditing is not a pre-requisite as we provide comprehensive training and support, but having an inquisitive mind and good report writing skills are important attributes we look for.
  • You must be client focused and able to build strong relationships with our clients and also your colleagues as there is a high degree of collaborative working which underpins the success of our work.
  • You are likely to have a degree in a relevant discipline, ideally be chartered (or working towards chartership) and you may have relevant post-graduate qualifications or training.
  • Projects will be based mainly in the UK but an ability and willingness to occasionally support delivery worldwide is useful but not a pre-requisite.
