We are looking for an enthusiastic Tunnel Systems Senior / Principal Engineer to join our growing Highways Comms team and help shape the future of transport technology.
Your role:
- Design and develop Tunnel Safety solutions.
- Liaise with our clients, stakeholders and internal disciplines, developing trusted relationships, and proactively managing expectations.
- Be responsible for producing, checking and certifying designs, documents and reports prior to approval.
- Ensure projects are delivered to budget, programme, technical standards and legal requirements.
- Proactive management of project and commercial risk in collaboration with Project and Technical Delivery Leads.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and Environmental Legislation and in-house quality assurance standards/processes.
- Site attendance to undertake witness installation and testing, General and Principal inspections.
- Work closely with Project and Technical Delivery Leads in planning, programming, and pricing of proposals and deliverables.
- Mentor and upskill more junior staff helping them develop professionally and progress towards professional qualifications.
About you:
- A proven technical capability in the design, operation or delivery of tunnel systems including electrical, mechanical, fire life safety, communications, and control systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Degree level- desirable Electrical / Electronic Engineering, Systems Engineering or related discipline.
- Professional registration with an accredited institution preferred.
- An understanding of tunnel operational procedures and practices including a knowledge of the applicable regulatory framework.
- Experience of relevant design standards and codes of best practice such as the Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, MCHW, National Highways Standards, BS767, working in applicable UK or international standards, specifically NFPA 502.
- A proven track record of working collaboratively with both internal and external partners on integrated highway technology projects.
- Practical understanding of working with infrastructure design systems, which may include skills previously gained in Building Information Modelling systems, AutoCAD (or similar), ProjectWise and SharePoint.
- Ability to motivate, develop and lead junior members of the team, encouraging individual growth and performance.
- Effective communication with Clients, Contractors, and other Key Stakeholders to deliver outputs on time and within budget.
- Experience of leading single or multi-disciplinary projects, or work packages.
- Well versed in the preparation and checking of reports and drawings for transport studies, designs and or, construction projects.
