As a SPCM/PCM, you will add value to project/programme teams on niche and high-profile schemes across the infrastructure sector for our reputable clients. You will be tasked with fulfilling a range of responsibilities, tailored to the specific needs of the project or program you are contributing to. Some of those purposes are listed below.
Your Role
- Where required, Supervision and management of a Project Controls team. As an inspirational leader, you will set individuals' objectives, review performance, undertake appraisals, provide ongoing formal and informal feedback, and ensure all staff know what they must achieve and how they're performing against their objectives. You will be inspirational in creating an environment that allows empowered and creative team members to succeed.
- Developing, monitoring and assuring the Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB). Agreeing on the progress measurement methodology with the contractor and ensuring timely submission of project actuals in a previously agreed format.
- Measuring current performance and forecasting future performance of the project/programme using valid performance measurement techniques such as earned value management.
- Developing where needed, Implementing, Sustaining and improving planning, risk, cost control, change control management policies, procedures & processes, and ensuring its proper application by the project controls and delivery teams. Detailed knowledge of investment principles and supporting technology solutions.
- Chairing and/or facilitating the necessary project/programme level change forums, escalating change papers with high level impact that require additional approvals and ensuring all choices are enacted within the change control system and toolsets.
- Advising project/programme leader by providing specialist advice and technical knowledge to resolve or mitigate delays, issues, and other challenges throughout the project.
- Undertaking self-assessment of procedural compliance, sharing lessons learned and best-practice within the wider Project Controls community.
About you
- Proficiency in EVM processes and their application in complex infrastructure projects and possessing a strong aptitude to oversee schedule, cost, risk, change control management activities, and reporting.
- Proven expertise in a Project Management or Project Controls Management position, specifically within complex infrastructure projects across sectors such as transport, energy, defence, water or oil & gas.
- Exceptional skills and experience at managing stakeholders such as clients, senior leaders, and various colleagues in a matrix and line organization.
- Experience in a client organisation or managing subcontractors from project controls perspective in a complex infrastructure project/ programme.
- A good standing formal professional Project Management or project controls management qualification or certification or Membership of a relevant professional body with (or working towards) Chartered Status and/or educated to degree level.
- Resilience, with the ability to maintain rational thought in a high-pressure environment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present at programme or portfolio level forums or meetings to senior stakeholders.
- Excellent visual communicator, able to provide insights and analysis through dashboards and visual reports.
- Experienced in the use of data and analytics to fully understand an issue, engage stakeholders and lead the implementation of business-wide change and continuous improvement.
- Successful leadership with a proven track record of delivering results within a large-scale project environment.
- Experience of project controls management under NEC Forms of Contract, including contract management and administration within rail and/or UK construction industry. Accredited NEC4 Project Manager desirable.
- Knowledge of the principles of Government investment processes and procedures. Formal qualification in Programme Management, e.g., MSP - Managing Successful Programmes.
- Experience of the rail industry and its regulatory framework, or a similarly regulated industry.
