AtkinsRéalis’ Engineering and Design Practice is seeking a motivated Mechanical Building Services Engineer to join its Manchester-based team. This role offers the opportunity to work within a nationally connected delivery team, collaborating with professionals across the UK and globally through the Global Technology Centre. You will contribute to delivering high-quality engineering design solutions across a diverse range of sectors, including Commercial, Defence, Energy, Education, and Healthcare. The role provides exposure to high-profile projects such as Manchester Digital Campus, Canary Wharf, and major infrastructure and defence programmes, offering valuable experience in complex, multidisciplinary environments.

Your role
- Design and specify mechanical building services systems from concept through to detailed design, including heating, cooling, ventilation, and public health systems.
- Perform detailed engineering calculations using tools such as Excel, IES, Hevacomp, and MEPworx.
- Prepare technical specifications, reports, and presentations to support effective project delivery.
- Collaborate with BIM teams to develop coordinated models and drawings, with a working knowledge of Revit.
- Participate in client and stakeholder meetings, contributing to technical discussions and project coordination.
- Undertake condition surveys, site inspections, and support installation and commissioning activities.
- Manage assigned tasks and deliver outputs to a high standard within agreed timelines and budgets.
- Contribute to knowledge sharing and support less experienced team members where appropriate.
About you
- Relevant experience in Mechanical Building Services Engineering, with a strong focus on delivering high-quality, sustainable design solutions.
- A proactive and enquiring approach, with an interest in innovation, digital tools, and continuous improvement in design practices.
- Degree (or equivalent) in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Working towards Chartered Membership (CIBSE, IMechE, or equivalent) with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Proficiency in industry-standard software such as IES, Hevacomp, StabiCAD, Revit, NBS, and Microsoft Office; experience in thermal modelling for compliance and optimisation is advantageous.
- Sound understanding of UK technical standards and relevant codes of practice.
- Knowledge of energy efficiency strategies and approaches to decarbonising both new and existing buildings.
- Awareness of energy and carbon data analysis, with an interest in improving building performance and supporting low‑carbon design.
- Familiarity with measurement and verification processes, including commissioning and post‑installation performance evaluation.
