Our collaborative and multi-disciplinary team is one of the largest in the UK, providing water and wastewater infrastructure services alongside drainage design, SuDS and surface water management. Our wide variety of clients span across the UK and internationally and include water companies, local authorities, highways/rail authorities, and developers.
It’s an exciting time to be working for our UK Water business with unprecedented investment in the water industry. Due to continued growth in the workload of our successful Water business, we seek to recruit Urban Drainage Modellers across our UK offices to support our service delivery to meet our client requirements. Our teams work flexibly, and all of the UK offices listed under this vacancy are possible home offices for these opportunities. You will join a team of engineers, modellers, geographers, GIS specialists and technicians and play a key role in delivering to a range of Clients including Water Companies, Local Authorities, and developers with the potential to get involved with international projects.

Your role
- Development of computer models to investigate water network issues and investment needs and generation of outline solutions.
- Analysis of data.
- Supporting the development of engineering solutions and advising our clients to help them make better asset investment decisions.
- Support development of reports and other project deliverables.
- Prepare (and adhere to) health and safety risk assessments.
- Support in the development of tender responses and fee estimates at higher grades.
- Supervising and developing staff and providing guidance to support their professional development at higher grades.
- Contributing towards technical innovation.
About you
Experience/awareness of urban drainage modelling within InfoWorks ICM (or CS), GIS packages such as ARC or MapInfo and civil engineering would be advantageous but not essential as full on the job training will be provided where required. These roles will involve working on feasibility studies, using computer analysis typically to support flooding and environmental improvement projects, site visits and liaison with clients, contractors, stakeholders and other professional bodies. The output will typically be in short reports to outline the approach taken and findings from the investigation.
Desirable requirements include
- Understanding of UK Water Industry and regulatory issues.
- Experience in Wastewater modelling and distribution networks.
- Building and calibrating network models.
- Using network models for planning, operational and solution development purposes.
- Experience with InfoWorks ICM (or CS) and other modelling software.
For the more senior roles, varying levels of experience in model build and verification, hydraulic and water quality analysis, catchment planning, Drainage and Wastewater Management Planning (DWMP), solution development and technical leadership are required to match the specific position as well as:
- Expertise using InfoWorks ICM and ICM Exchange.
- Proven track record in coordinating and delivering technically excellent projects.
- Ability to check the work of others to provide quality assurance and drive continuous improvement in work delivered to the client.
- Implementation of industry leading solutions and development of innovative solutions.
- Management and technical supervision of a team of waste water modellers.
- Supervision of report writing and check and review of outputs.
Desirable Qualifications
- BSc/BEng/MEng degree level: geography, GIS, Science, engineering related subject or equivalent considered with appropriate professional qualifications at the senior levels.
- Technician roles require HNC, HND level qualification in similar subjects. Opportunities to work towards qualifications will be available for the successful candidates.
