We are seeking a motivated Civil Engineer to join our Buildings and Places multi-disciplinary design service, supporting the delivery of a diverse range of civil infrastructure projects across sectors including defence, education, public realm and aviation. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a developing engineer to build strong technical capability and broaden their experience, working on projects from early concept through to construction, with support and mentorship from experienced civil and structural engineers.

You will form part of a growing civil engineering team within AtkinsRéalis’ national Building Design Practice. The role will involve the design and coordination of sustainable drainage systems and hard landscaping in support of our multi-discipline buildings design. It will cover civil infrastructure works such as car parks, access roads, external works and drainage systems alongside involvement in the associated statutory approvals, technical consents and planning‑related submissions required to deliver projects across the UK. You will be working on projects throughout the UK with occasional opportunities to contribute to international projects. Based within a collaborative, multi‑disciplinary environment, the position offers flexibility in location across our UK offices, with hybrid and remote working options aligned to our flexible working practices.

Your Role

  • Experience working as a Civil Engineer ideally in the buildings sector.
  • Honors Degree in Civil Engineering (preferred) or HND or equivalent experience.
  • Working towards Chartered Civil Engineer (MICE).
  • Experience in the design and analysis of drainage, utilities, paved and unpaved surfaces, earthworks, access and accessibility, construction logistics. Experience with current UK design standards and working practices.
  • Good communication and presentation skills, verbal and written (for report writing purposes).
  • Ability to use AutoCAD and Civils 3D. Revit BIM 360 experience is also desirable.
  • Ability to use Infodrainage or Flow as a drainage hydraulic modelling package with confidence. Ability to carry out Swept Path Analysis within AutoCAD.
  • Embrace new technologies including digital engineering, automation and parametric design.
  • Ability to achieve SC clearance (highly desirable).
  • Driving Licence (desirable).

  • Contributing to the delivery of small to medium infrastructure projects as part of a technically focused design.
  • Production of designs for projects in accordance with relevant design standards and codes.
  • Ensuring the provision of efficient and high-quality engineering services.
  • Effectively manage own time. Collaborating as part of a multidisciplinary design team.
  • Comply with Quality and Technical Assurance Procedures.
  • Be aware of and work in compliance with BIM standards, Digital Plan of Work, and the project BIM Execution plan. Have a proactive, co-operative, and helpful attitude to colleagues and clients.
  • Have a self-motivating, reliable and consistent approach to work.
  • Be practically minded with a problem-solving nature and work independently in teams.
  • Have the ability to communicate effectively at all levels. Take acceptance of responsibility for work carried out.
  • Have a flexible and adaptable approach to work and also excellent verbal and written communication skills.
