As a Chartered/Senior Bridge Engineer in our Bridges and Civils team within our Transportation business, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of transportation. We work on a diverse range of significant and challenging projects across the UK and Ireland, including the multiple sections of the A9 Dualling, Network Rail’s CP7 Maintenance Programme and the East Airdrie Link Road as well as the N28 Cork to Ringaskiddy (Ireland). The team also supports non-transportation civil engineering and structures projects throughout the UK and internationally such as Rolls Royce Small Modular Reactor programme, as well as delivering a range of local authority projects for Councils across Scotland and Northern Ireland. You’ll take pride in creating high-quality civil and structural designs for new builds, renewals, maintenance, and assessments.

Your role

  • Take pride in developing high-quality civil and structural designs for new constructions, renewals, maintenance, and assessments.
  • Collaborate with both national and international design teams, using your expertise and leadership to create positive, sustainable impacts on society and the environment.
  • Manage the production and review of high-quality design documentation, including sketches, drawings, calculations, reports, and specifications.
  • Independently carry out technical work and provide guidance to junior staff members.
  • Lead teams in the design, assessment, and maintenance of structural projects, and providing structures related input on multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Develop and agree scopes and manage the internal technical supply chain, including budgets, programme and quality of deliverables.
  • Use analytical skills to derive potential solutions to engineering problems and engineering judgement to appraise different options and recommend the most suitable option.
  • Lead bids and tenders, winning work and developing Client relationships.

About you

  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
  • A professional qualification (CEng/IEng) and membership of the ICE or IStructE.
  • Experience of working with key clients such as Transport Scotland and National Highways, Network Rail, local authorities as well as major Contractors and Developers.
  • Good understanding of relevant design standards (e.g. Eurocodes, DMRB, MCHW and Network Rail standards).
  • Practical knowledge and experience of bridge design, maintenance and assessment.
  • Experience of structural analysis software packages such as LUSAS, MIDAS and Autodesk Structural Bridge Design.
  • Proven knowledge in design, maintenance and supervision of structures related projects together with a track record of innovation in design and management of highway structures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to converse with a wide range of clients, stakeholders and colleagues across a number of engineering disciplines.
  • Good project management skills, commercial awareness, financial control and ability to deliver across a range of contract types. This will include an ability to manage stakeholders, e.g. specialist suppliers, independent checkers and local authorities.
