The transmission network operators have secured c.£8bn as part of the RIIO T2 package. Our team is currently delivering work across the Transmission and Distribution sectors across the UK as well as supporting other Energy and infrastructure business sectors. We are in a position where we need to grow our team to enhance our capability and strengthen our service offering. As such we are recruiting an experienced BIM Manager to join our Energy Practice.
Responsibilities
- You will lead on BIM model development and design services across a growing portfolio of Front End and Detailed Design projects for electrical substation projects.
- You will be working in a senior position based either in Epsom, Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow, Bristol or remotely.
- Building strong and trusted relationships is a key part of this role. You will enjoy working with others, sometimes directly at client sites, sometimes from our offices.
- Provide Technical Leadership on the FEED and Detail Design workstream for National Grid, SSEN-Transmission or other Transmission & Distribution clients.
- Develop and deliver our BIM strategy for the Transmission and Distribution sector.
- Develop a team of CAD technicians to deliver high quality models and drawings.
- Lead on the development of 3D BIM models, including federation, coordination, clash detection and resolution across multiple disciplines.
- Lead on the preparation of 2D drawings, including general arrangements, cable routing, earthing, and SLDs etc.
- Ensure compliance with the company’s established standards, conventions, and procedures, and applicable engineering codes and practices (inc. BS 8888).
- Ensure compliance with National Grid / SSEN standards and project-specific BIM protocols.
- Work alongside Project Information Managers to setup and manage CDE environments (ACC, BIM 360 and Bentley ProjectWise).
- Prepare and deliver training on BIM standards and workflows.
- Lead BIM / CAD improvement initiatives and tools development.
- Maintain existing and develop new client relationships.
About you
You have a proven track record of leading others to produce complex designs and drawings to applicable engineering codes and standards. You are comfortable working in new and changing environments and have a desire to contribute to the success of the business. You are comfortable liaising with stakeholders at all levels both internally and externally.
Key skills and attributes include the following:
- A degree/diploma in Engineering design, drafting or equivalent.
- Experience in a leadership/management position in a similar environment.
- Strong understanding and leadership of the engineering projects through asset lifecycles.
- Track record of leading teams in the delivery of Front-End Engineering and design or Detailed Design of electrical substation projects.
- Experience of working for a client organisation such as transmission system owner/operator, distribution network operator or a design consultancy delivering to such organisation.
- Experience with a variety of CAD software, such as Plant 3D, Revit, Civil 3D, Navisworks Manage/Simulate, AutoCAD 2D, ReCap Pro, etc.
- An appreciation of delivery and checking of technically compliant design deliverables in accordance with the input requirements, and ability to identify design issues.
- Experience of CAD delivery for high hazard industrial projects (e.g., Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, High Voltage electrical infrastructure).
- Capability to work under tight deadlines while achieving objectives with the ability to deal with competing priorities and manage time appropriately.
