The Power Energy Systems (PES) Practice of AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior Power System Studies Engineer with extensive offshore wind or renewables experience to lead grid compliance, dynamic simulation, power system studies, technical consulting, and client engagement across renewable energy projects. AtkinsRéalis specialises in all aspects of Transmission and Distribution engineering within the UK and internationally.
This role focuses on grid compliance, power system analysis, EMT and dynamic studies, and the application of advanced simulation tools to solve complex network challenges. The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise with client-facing, leadership, and mentoring responsibilities. You will be conducting simulations and analytical studies for Offshore Wind projects, load and generation interconnection, integration of renewables. Preparing simulation study models and carry out power system studies including but not limited to grid compliance studies for offshore wind projects, solar, BESS and hybrid projects. You will have a knowledge of steady state and dynamic power flow analysis. Conducting fault ride through studies and short circuit calculation. Completing power quality analysis and Electro Magnetic Transient Analysis (EMTP) such as switching and lightning transient studies, energisation studies etc. Dynamic simulation of networks involving HVDC, FACTS and inverter-based generation. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including clients, contractors, statutory bodies, operations teams and multidisciplinary project teams. Provide technical input to bids, proposals and framework opportunities, defining delivery approaches, resource requirements, assumptions, risks and differentiators. Identify opportunities for service growth, innovation, standardisation and continuous improvement, helping to strengthen AtkinsRéalis’ capability and market offering. Develop, mentor and support engineers, building capability, improving technical consistency and supporting succession planning within the practice. Anticipate emerging business, regulatory, supply chain and technology challenges, identifying risks and opportunities early and advising project and practice leadership.
You have a proven track record of leading power systems studies on renewable energy projects. You combine strong technical judgement with the ability to influence clients, guide multidisciplinary teams, develop others and contribute to business growth. You are comfortable working in complex and changing environments and can communicate confidently with stakeholders at all levels, internally and externally.
Key skills and attributes
- Degree qualified in electrical engineering or a relevant discipline; Master’s degree qualification is desirable.
- Chartered Engineer status, or demonstrable progress towards chartership, with membership of the IET or a similar industry body.
- Comprehensive experience in studies for offshore wind and renewables projects at Pre-FEED, FEED and Detailed Design stages, with significant experience dedicated to major offshore wind projects.
- Expertise in system study software such as PSCAD, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, including the development of software scripts.
- Experience in leading teams to deliver multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent stakeholder communication—able to influence senior clients across multidisciplinary and international teams.
- Commercially astute, with the ability to build client relationships, support bids, develop propositions, coach others and champion continuous improvement.
- Ideally you will bring a knowledge of PSSE, MATLAB / Simulink and associated system study software, a competency in Python coding and experience of working on Traction simulation studies.
