The AtkinsRealis Traffic Control Systems team works across the transport sector helping clients navigate a rapidly changing world, linking current Traffic Signals and Intelligent Transport Systems with future-focused technology opportunities. The team undertakes a variety of design, implementation, consultancy and advisory projects for a broad set of UK and international clients, including the Department for Transport, National Highways and local authorities.
The team sits within the Intelligent Transport & Infrastructure practice, part of AtkinsRealis UK Transportation business. Approximately 15 TCS staff provide market-leading capability in traffic signals, Urban Traffic Control and operations, blending projects that utilise traffic signals, motorway control, toll road systems and smart ticketing with emerging trends such as digital highways, Mobility-as-a-Service, Connected Vehicles and AI.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake design of Traffic Signal Installations in 2D and 3D using AutoCAD.
- Provide solutions to design problems.
- Prepare engineering calculations and engineering drawings.
- Conduct site visits to undertake surveys and support installation and optimisation.
- Test and commission equipment.
- Support the administration of projects.
- Write technical notes, project reports and other design-related deliverables for clients.
- Work with senior staff to report on project progress.

- Experience with CAD software.
