Based in the North East UK (Newcastle / Stockton / Leeds) (with flexible hybrid working), you will be part of an award-winning group of material management, waste and contaminated land experts delivering innovative solutions to major UK infrastructure projects, across the transportation, energy, buildings and places and water markets. Your role
- Preparation and delivery of a wide variety of reports including material management plans (MMPs), verification reports, environmental waste permit applications, waste sampling plans, ground investigation/sampling reports and risk assessments.
- Undertake waste classification using HazWaste online.
- Design, organise and undertake ground investigations to obtain information for materials and waste assessments.
- Managing the implementation and verification of MMPs/environmental waste permits, this may require ad-hoc working out of a client office or on site.
- Auditing of contractors to assess if they are compliant with material management plans, environmental waste permits and waste legislation.
- Liaison with clients, stakeholders, regulators, contractors, and other internal disciplines.
- Work effectively as part of a team and with other professionals (environmental scientists, engineers, planners) to provide a consistent and integrated service to our clients.
- Compliance with Health and Safety Policies and Procedures, including preparing health and safety plans and managing health and safety on site.
- Developing own competence and maintain CPD necessary to fulfil the responsibilities of the role, with support from the business on own training and development needs.
- Management of own work including supporting senior management to ensure projects are delivered on-time, on budget and to quality and client expectations.
About you
- Degree qualified in a relevant engineering or science subject (e.g. geology, geography, hydrogeology, chemistry, earth sciences, environmental science).
- Working towards Chartered Membership of relevant professional body.
- Relevant post-graduate experience, with a track record in delivering work on-time, on budget and to quality and client expectations.
- Demonstratable understanding of material management, earthworks and/or waste aspects on a development site including understanding of relevant codes of practice and industry standards / guidance (e.g. Definition of Waste: Development Industry Code of Practice and Technical Guidance WM3 etc).
- Experience in relevant site-based ground investigation and sampling work including undertaking soil logging, monitoring/sampling and providing supervision and management of contractors undertaking trial pitting and drilling activities on brownfield sites.
- Good organisational skills and an appetite for undertaking outdoor work in all weathers (alongside a variety of desk-based tasks) are essential.
- Keen team player keen to learn and make a difference.
- Full UK driving licence and the ability and willingness to travel throughout the UK and work from client offices / sites.
- Is trained in how to use HazWasteOnline.
- Has attended the CL:AIRE ‘Definition of Waste: Code of Practice’ Training or has experience of writing MMPs.
