Job Description
Atkins has one of the Rail industry’s largest signalling engineering teams. You will be joining a Atkin’s Signalling Systems Practice with a team of over 100 professional signalling design, project engineers and engineering managers. This together with Atkins broader cross discipline capability means engineers have an unrivalled collective knowledge to tap into and learn from.
Your Purpose:
This role is a senior leader within the project team with responsibility for all Engineering aspects of the project. Project reporting will be to the Project Director with line reporting to the Signalling Systems Practice Manager – Delivery. This role will be the Contractor’s Engineering Manager for the project, and will provide leadership to all discipline engineers and teams.
Primary functions of the role include:
- Providing leadership to, and coordinating the efforts of the engineering teams.
- Setting the safety and engineering culture for the project.
- Understanding contractual requirements and communicating to the Engineering Team.
- Focal point for technical issues/coordinating between Atkins, Sub-contractors and Client.
- Addressing and resolving scope cost changes and schedule impact issues with the Project Manager.
- Ensuring achievement of safety, quality, schedule and cost objectives.
- Addressing Engineering personnel performance issues.
- Ensuring Document Management supports the projects needs.
- Developing and coordinating Engineering subcontracts.
- Leading inter-disciplinary communication, activities and reviews.
- Actively managing the engineering budget.
- Assisting with project closeout and turnover of deliverables to Client.
- Supporting the collective learning of the organisation.
What you can bring:
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- Extensive UK signalling project engineering experience.
- Extensive senior leadership experience.
- Experience of undertaking CEM / CRE responsibilities on Network Rail infrastructure.
- Understanding of risk management, CDM and CSM.
- Chartered Engineer.
- Holds applicable IRSE Licences.
- Full Member of the IRSE.
- Experience of introducing new equipment / systems onto the rail network.
