Job Description Overview We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our growing team, to help develop and maintain software that supports the delivery of major offshore wind projects. This role will bridge software development and engineering, delivering reliable solutions and promoting good software development practices across the wider team.
Your role Design, develop, test, deliver and maintain software applications that automate offshore wind engineering processes. Develop solutions for areas such as geometry generation, analysis automation, data processing and results visualisation. Collaborate with engineers and other stakeholders across multidisciplinary teams to understand business needs and define software requirements. Translate engineering requirements and calculations into robust, maintainable software. Produce high-quality, well-structured and well-documented code that follows coding standards and software engineering best practices. Reduce software risk through automated testing, code reviews and controlled release processes. Participate in DevOps activities, including work planning, estimation and the setup and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines. Produce clear user and developer documentation. Support users and stakeholders during the introduction and ongoing use of software applications. Support and mentor engineers in developing engineering scripts, helping them deliver projects and adopt good practices for producing reliable, maintainable code. Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of software standards, processes and guidance.
About you Essential experience and skills
- A degree or equivalent professional experience in software engineering and structural engineering.
- Professional experience developing applications using Python.
- A strong understanding of object-oriented design and general software design principles.
- Experience writing clean, modular, maintainable and testable code.
- Experience creating and maintaining automated unit tests.
- Experience using Git-based version control.
Desirable experience and skills
- Developing web applications using technologies such as JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, Node.js and React.
- Integrating software with specialist engineering applications, such as SESAM, Abaqus or Autodesk Inventor.
- Experience in the design or analysis of offshore structures.
- Working with relational or non-relational databases.
- Using cloud platforms and container technologies.
- Developing Excel based tools using formulas and VBA.
