AtkinsRéalis Geomatics use advanced technology to transform the raw survey data gathered from site into powerful decision-making tools. We offer a comprehensive range of survey and mapping services, from small scale ground-based survey to wide-area aerial 3D mapping. Since 2015 this has included a UAV survey capability. Our team works closely with clients to identify a data collection method that meets their project and cost requirements, and to deliver the insight they need; whether that be to inform the design of a new development, optimise the route of new infrastructure or update existing building or site records for asset management purposes.

The role of UAV Survey Lead is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to take the technical lead of that part of our capability. Planning and coordinating UAV surveys and overseeing the processing of the deliverables. They will also lead business development and estimating for future opportunities. They will lead on continuing to develop the capability to ensure we remain at the forefront of UAV Survey in terms of the tools we use and data we deliver, ensuring interoperability with a variety of user software platforms. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in managing and developing UAV Survey. They will be based out of one of the following offices: Bristol, London & Southeast or Birmingham. They will have to be prepared to travel with the potential for short stays away.

Your role

  • Lead the UAV capability in terms of:
  • Coordinating UAV surveys.
  • Direction and development of the capability.
  • Business development and costing/bidding for opportunities.
  • Liaise with clients during production and delivery of work packages.
  • Coordinating technical development and continuous improvement of working procedures.
  • Coordinate and contribute to the wider Geomatics team, often working with them where other survey techniques are also required.
  • Represent the business professionally to new and existing clients.

About you

  • A successful candidate must:
  • Have achieved a degree or further education qualification in a field related to geospatial, geomatics, aerial surveying, remote sensing or photogrammetry.
  • Have a proven track record in managing and developing UAV Survey.
  • Have experience of carrying out and managing UAV projects, primarily for geospatial surveys.
  • In-depth technical knowledge of the principles of aerial surveying, including photogrammetry and LiDAR.
  • Show an understanding of survey principles and accuracies, primarily GNSS RTK/PPK.
  • Have extensive experience of aerial survey data processing workflows, and the production of derived survey deliverables such as DTM, orthophoto, topographic mapping.
  • Attention to detail and experience managing projects with large amounts of data.
  • Have excellent communication and presentation skills, be confident in dealing with clients and senior management on a daily basis, and be able to communicate effectively and respectfully with overseas office staff.
  • Be willing to travel throughout the UK to both carry out site work and promote the UAV Survey capability to both our internal and external markets.
  • Must be fully self-motivated and able to work to tight and personally set deadlines independently and as part of a team. Flexible and able to solve problems and develop alternative methods as appropriate without supervision.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview.
