We have brought together a team of 180 consultants and engineers with deep expertise across asset management, intelligent mobility, smart technology, and digital and data solutions within the transport environment. This newly formed, externally facing business is designed to align closely with our clients' evolving needs, while creating fresh opportunities for our people to grow, develop, and thrive as part of a collaborative and innovative practice.

In Asset Management, we help our road, rail, and transportation customers to get the most out of their built infrastructure assets. We provide the information they need to make key plans and decisions about the future, such as when to invest in their assets and what maintenance activities to prioritise. Asset management is one of Atkins priorities for growth, and we are seeking a Structures Asset Management Engineer to support our existing portfolio of projects and provide capacity to grow the business and support future opportunities.

The person we're seeking to employ will enjoy contributing across a portfolio of consultancy projects and will thrive in a busy, innovative and challenging environment. You'll be technically excellent, whatever your level of experience and will be equally happy presenting to a client or developing technical details back at the office. The role will involve providing strategic direction to clients in defining and implementing their asset management policies, using data and analysis tools to develop works programmes at the tactical level. The focus of the role will be project delivery, with some support activities including project bidding. In addition, there will be opportunities to manage your own projects as part of your role. We also advise clients on the implementation of national guidance and best practice, such as the uptake of risk-based approaches to asset management. This often involves working closely with clients to understand their needs and aspirations, followed by developing and implementing improvement or transformation plans. The projects we work on are varied, dynamic and stimulating, providing plenty of opportunity for new challenges and personal growth.

Why join us

  • Work on innovative projects that combine structural engineering, material performance and whole-life asset management.
  • Build your technical capability through hands-on experience, mentoring and exposure to industry-recognised standards and methodologies.
  • Develop sought-after skills in data analysis, reporting and asset strategy within the transport and infrastructure sector.
  • Be part of a collaborative team where your ideas, curiosity and professional growth are valued.

Your role

  • Analyse structural assets using condition and inspection data, including Bridge Condition Indicators, inspection reports and related datasets.
  • Support projects focused on material performance, deterioration and degradation in structures.
  • Use and help develop deterioration models and curves to inform whole-life asset management and investment decisions.
  • Interpret client data, identify trends, draw conclusions and provide clear, evidence-based advice.
  • Review and validate asset data to ensure analyses and recommendations are based on robust information.
  • Use coding or programming skills, where relevant, to support data analysis and improve analytical workflows.
  • Contribute to the development of asset management approaches for structures and, where relevant, other transport infrastructure assets.
  • Develop practical knowledge of relevant standards and guidance, including DMRB, as applied to structural asset management.
  • Prepare clear, concise client outputs, including technical reports, business cases, presentations and supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineers, asset managers and other disciplines to develop practical, deliverable solutions.
  • Support project delivery to agreed timescales, quality standards and client requirements.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of analytical methods, tools and approaches across the team.

About you
