As a Process Safety Engineer in our Power and Energy Solutions Practice, you’ll be part of a talented team designing complex new schemes to protect our clients' assets. As well as delivering what’s best for major organisations, you’ll be able to point to something that improves thousands of lives every day and say, 'I helped to make this happen'.
Your role
We are looking for a principal process safety engineer to join our Power and Energy Solutions Practice. This position would be based in central Scotland (Glasgow, Edinburgh), Bristol or Stockton, with a flexible mixture of home-working and office collaboration time expected. We also welcome applicants wishing to work part-time. We are looking for someone versatile; you could be working on several small projects, writing bids, or overseeing juniors to deliver scope.
- Executing and steering technical delivery of projects (process safety scope)
- Collaborating with other disciplines on design projects
- Producing or providing input to proposals
- Providing quality technical advice to clients and internal teams
- Overseeing and coaching juniors (delegating tasks and checking calculations and deliverables)
About you
In addition to building excellent relationships within AtkinsRéalis, you’ll be able to build excellent relationships with our clients, being able to provide proactive support to a team or client within a project. You should have a high attention to detail to deliver or check quality deliverables. We are looking for a person with prior experience in consequence modelling software for Major Accident Hazard scenarios. Favourable qualities include but are not limited to, knowledge of supporting or conducting hazard workshops e.g. HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID. Proven knowledge of legislative requirement associated with major hazards, examples of which may include COMAH & DSEAR. Ability to prepare proposals, coordinate bids/proposals and win new projects and proven collaboration skills to work within multi-disciplinary teams.
Examples of the types of work you will be involved in:
- Consequence modelling of Major Accident Hazard scenarios, and Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRAs).
- Hazardous Area Classification & DSEAR assessments.
- Preparing HSE study reports to line with client standards and to support project requirements.
- Depending on project phase these may include philosophy documents or detailed calculations.
- Leading HAZOP and LOPA workshops, including preparing Terms of Reference.
Essential Requirements:
In addition to having strong communication and analytical skills, other key requirements include:
- University Degree in an appropriate science, engineering, or equivalent experience and qualification.
- Experience working in highly regulated process and energy related industries.
- Ability to provide a customer-focused service.
- Motivated to meet delivery/cost targets without compromising quality.
