The Signalling Testing and Commissioning Practice is an exciting team, eager to grasp modern systems, processes and concepts, within the regulatory framework that we are required to work. We are seeking a motivated and organised individual to join us and lead the testing planning and management of major projects. You will need to be able to demonstrate an ability to work under pressure and to use initiative whilst working within a highly regulated environment. Reporting to and deputising for the Testing and Commissioning Engineer (Delivery), the work is mainly site based on projects and as such there may be a requirement to lodge away for extended periods of time and to work unsocial hours. You must hold a full UK driving License. While Birmingham is listed as the primary location, we are flexible and open to considering other UK locations as well.

Your role

  • Take overall responsibility for the testing and commissioning of new and altered signalling systems for Major Works Testing of substantial Signalling projects. Undertake testing duties within the scope of Certificate of Competency held.
  • Identify resource requirements for your projects and ensure that competent staff are utilized, ensuring they are briefed regarding their work and responsibilities and that any necessary documentation is completed. Encourage and promote the advancement of staff as a route to self-development. Cascade management briefings as required. Deputies for the Testing Manager. Undertake line management duties.
  • Upward briefing of project testing status to Testing Manager and Project team as required. Ensure audits and surveillances are undertaken in accordance with the Project Quality plan. Ensure adherence to the AtkinsRéalis standards, procedures, processes covering all engineering, safety, administrative and project requirements.
  • Co-operate with quality, safety, and environmental objectives and contribute where appropriate to AtkinsRéalis commitment for continual improvement. Manage testing and commissioning of signalling equipment to meet contract specifications, performance, and safety parameters.
  • Manage effective utilisation and allocation of project-based testing resources both internal and subcontracted. Prepare and check bids for accuracy and price for the testing portion of signalling projects. Contribute to AtkinsRéalis continuous improvement of processes and procedures, and innovations and initiatives.

About you

  • Must Hold NR CofC, MUST Hold IRSE License- Tester in Charge and Functional Tester IRSE License 1.3.190 / 1.3.170. NR CofC and IRSE License submission with your application.
  • Experience in the planning and management of railway signalling Testing & Commissioning of projects of all sizes. NR Major works TIC certification and evidence of project delivery.
  • Thorough and detailed knowledge of Network Rail Signal Works Testing Handbook. Appreciation and awareness of principles and systems testing requirements.
  • A1 IRSE assessor for all Testing Categories except Principles and Systems Testing (desirable). Good knowledge of Railway Group and NR company standards requirements.
  • Good personnel management and communication skills, both internally and with the client. Able to work under pressure during intense periods of commissioning works.
  • Current Driving License.
