At AtkinsRéalis we offer an opportunity to make a difference and shape the world to benefit future generations and the natural environment. The 24/7 business of collecting, treating and safely returning society’s wastewater to the environment inevitably produces residuals that require management, but can also be valuable, renewable resources. We use the term bioresources in the UK to cover the solids extracted from wastewater treatment both untreated (sewage sludge), and after further treatment and stabilisation (biosolids). At AtkinsRéalis, due to significant success in the UK and global bioresources markets, our Bioresources Team is growing exponentially.
We are therefore on the lookout for enthusiastic individuals at all levels from recent university graduates to water industry professionals. You’ll be joining an exciting, dynamic team that provides asset management, strategy, regulatory, technical and operational advice to enable our clients to make the right strategic decisions and successfully implement their strategies. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to learn and grow your career in an area which is undergoing a global transformation in terms of regulatory, technological, and economic change.
You could be driving strategic initiatives, business change and innovative thinking to support Net Zero ambitions with our clients, pioneering innovative treatment technologies to ensure our clients stay ahead of the curve, developing biorefineries of the future to unlock the full potential of bioresources or providing regulatory and legislative support to set the direction of bioresources to a more resilient future position.
The location of role is flexible across the UK – with hybrid‑working supported and with potential offices including Birmingham, Bristol, Epsom, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Manchester and Warrington. We have opportunities for both Bioresources Process Specialists and Consultants to join our team and immediately add value to the clients that we are working with.
AtkinsRéalis recognise that there are many well qualified people who are looking to further their career, but who cannot commit to full time employment. We support flexible working arrangements and are interested to discuss how we can accommodate individual requirements. As part of this commitment, we understand the need for a diverse and flexible workforce, where a work‑life balance is important. So, by default AtkinsRéalis offers flexible working, where there is no fixed 9 ‘till 5, no need for a 5‑day week, no requirement for a full‑time contract, and no requirement to spend all your working time in the office.
Your role as a part of the team includes examining, assessing and developing ways to increase the value of our client's output for positive real‑world outcomes and to deliver innovative, industry leading solutions for Bioresources. You will build upon the company's expertise, developing a wider range of services to meet our clients' needs in the transport, treatment and management of bioresources, helping to define a more sustainable future. This will include working on projects, contributing to bids, developing new business propositions or researching potential new markets.
We want you to help us grow our business by:
- Working within multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver excellent results for our clients, addressing challenges and converting them into opportunities for Bioresources management.
- Analysing Bioresources processes and operations, using appropriate tools and techniques to identify improvements in accordance with client objectives.
- Preparing reports and presenting to a range of client stakeholders.
- Contributing to the development of operational improvement tools, techniques and methods that build capability within our teams.
- Maintaining and enhancing our regulatory capability.
About you: You may have gained relevant skills within a complementary, but different role and it would be great if you had demonstrable experience working in a technical, strategic, or environmental discipline relevant to the Bioresources sector. Ideally you will have a relevant degree in a scientific or environmental discipline or professional qualification (Process Specialists professional qualification such as CEnv, C.WEM, C.Eng, PIEMA). We are looking to recruit individuals at all stages of their career, with a passion for developing technically and professionally with an interest about the future of the Bioresources sector and the potential it presents.
Have experience of planning, managing and delivering tasks to challenging deadlines. Have the ability to flex your style to suit different stakeholders, putting forward your views and conversing effectively and presenting technical solutions to non‑technical audiences.
