We are seeking a motivated Architect / Architectural Technologist to join our Birmingham Studio in support of the architectural design for the Midlands Rail Hub programme, a transformative project that will significantly improve rail connectivity across Birmingham and the wider West Midlands. This appointment will be on a contract basis.

We are looking to recruit an Architect / Architectural Technologist with relevant years post‑qualification experience, specifically in the transportation and rail sectors. This opportunity is well suited to individuals who thrive in a collaborative multidisciplinary environment and are eager to contribute to a high‑profile project that will enable up to 300 additional trains per day across the West Midlands, improving services between Birmingham and more than 50 locations across the Midlands and Wales.
Your Role- Contribute to the Architecture team’s design and development work for the reconfiguration of rail services across Birmingham and the wider region.
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary project environment, including building design and rail disciplines.
- Deliver high‑quality architectural technical drawings, schedules and specifications.
- Ensure design responses are pragmatic, meet the client brief and respect site‑specific constraints and opportunities relating to climate, context and culture.
- Develop strong, narrative‑driven design proposals that enhance our design reputation.
- Report on project activity, analyse feedback and evaluate success factors.
- Support the development of design culture and capability within the multidisciplinary team.
- RIBA Part 3 qualification or CIAT accreditation, with demonstrable experience across a range of complex projects at various stages and a solid understanding of UK Building Regulations.
- A flexible, positive, self‑motivated, and collaborative approach, with a strong “can‑do” attitude.
- Experience in transportation—particularly rail—as well as in commercial and public‑sector architecture.
- A solid understanding of the design process, from concept to detail, with the ability to develop, coordinate and resolve key details through to completion.
- Readiness to take responsibility for specific roles, areas or packages of work, with awareness of project budgets and a willingness to grow knowledge of project finances.
- Strong interpersonal skills, excellent organisation and attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- A passion for high‑quality design and a commitment to delivering excellence at every stage of the design and construction process.
- Proficiency in key design software, particularly Bentley MicroStation, OpenBuildings Designer, Revit, AutoCAD, and visualisation tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Enscape or V‑Ray.
