The SEND 1:1 Support Practitioner is responsible for providing dedicated, individual support to a child with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND). The role focuses on enabling the child to access learning opportunities, develop independence, and fully participate in nursery life in a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consistent 1:1 support to a named child in line with their individual needs, targets, and care plans.
- Support the child’s learning, development, and emotional wellbeing through tailored activities and strategies.
- Implement and contribute to Individual Support Plans, EHCP targets (if applicable), and recommendations from external professionals.
- Work closely with the room team to adapt activities and routines to ensure inclusion and accessibility.
- Observe, record, and report on the child’s progress, sharing feedback with the SENCO, Room Leader, and parents/carers as appropriate.
- Support and use agreed strategies to promote independence where possible.
- Assist with personal care needs where required, following nursery policies and safeguarding procedures.
- Maintain a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment at all times.
- Liaise with external agencies such as speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, or advisory teachers as directed.
- Uphold Snapdragons Nursery policies, including safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality, and equality.
