We’re looking for an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to support EHS programs at our Abingdon UK facility. This is a site-based hands-on individual contributor role focused on supporting the implementation and execution of Snap’s EHS management systems, ensuring compliance with UK regulatory requirements and promoting a strong safety culture. You will partner closely with site leadership and cross-functional teams including Security, Legal, People, Spectacles, Engineering and Workplace Services to help protect our people, facilities and technologies.
Work Schedule: On-site Monday–Friday 8:00am–5:00pm with flexibility to support occasional nights/weekends and emergency response activities as required.
Reporting Line: This role reports to the EHS Manager.
What you’ll do
- Compliance & Risk Management: Support the development, implementation and maintenance of the site EHS management system in alignment with Snap corporate policy, HSG65 principles and UK regulatory requirements. Partner with EHS leadership and site stakeholders to help ensure compliance with UK legislation including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, PUWER, Environmental Permitting Regulations and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order. Partner with engineering and operations teams to support safe installation, operation and maintenance of toxic and hazardous gas systems including gas cabinets, detection systems and associated emergency controls in compliance with COSHH and DSEAR. Conduct and support risk assessments for equipment, manufacturing processes, laboratories and new technology introductions. Support site EHS audits, inspections and contractor oversight activities, ensuring findings are accurately documented and corrective actions are tracked to completion. Maintain up-to-date legal registers, compliance documentation and site risk registers. Track, analyze and report EHS key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Hazardous Materials & Manufacturing Safety: Support and administer hazardous materials and hazardous waste management programs including safe handling, storage, labeling and disposal. Support manufacturing and laboratory safety programs including machine safety, laser safety, hazardous gases and chemical safety. Partner with engineering, production and vendors to support safe installation, commissioning and operation of manufacturing tools and equipment. Assist with contractor safety management including onboarding, permit-to-work processes and field safety oversight.
- Training, Culture & Engagement: Develop and deliver EHS training and awareness programs for employees, contractors and site visitors. Promote a proactive safety culture through hazard recognition, near-miss reporting and employee engagement. Partner with site safety committees and working groups to strengthen safety participation and accountability. Support incident and near-miss investigations applying root cause analysis techniques and helping ensure corrective and preventive actions are effectively implemented. Provide EHS input to improve systems and processes to prevent recurrence of incidents. Support emergency preparedness programs including emergency response teams, drills and emergency equipment readiness.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Working knowledge of UK EHS regulatory frameworks and practical application in a technical or manufacturing environment. Experience supporting the safe use and control of toxic and hazardous gases including monitoring systems, emergency procedures and compliance with DSEAR and COSHH requirements. Familiarity with emergency planning, fire and life safety, hazardous gas safety, machine safety, contractor safety and hazardous materials management. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities concurrently in a fast-paced environment. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt to changing priorities. Self-motivated, detail-oriented and able to work effectively with limited supervision. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and influence employees, contractors and leaders at all levels.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Environmental Health & Safety or a related discipline or equivalent practical experience. 3 years of experience in an Environmental Health & Safety role. NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent).
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in a semiconductor manufacturing, cleanroom, laboratory or advanced manufacturing environment. Experience supporting EHS management systems (e.g. ISO 14001, HSG65 principles). NEBOSH Diploma (Level 6) or actively working toward completion. National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 5 or Level 6 in Occupational Health & Safety.
