We’re looking for an experienced Senior Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to lead the EHS program at our Abingdon, UK facility. This role provides site-level ownership and leadership for health, safety, and environmental compliance while continuously improving EHS performance in a technically complex manufacturing and laboratory environment.
Work Schedule: On-site | Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm, with flexibility to support occasional nights/weekends and emergency response activities as required.
Reporting Line: This role reports to the EHS Manager.
What you’ll do:
- Senior EHS Technical Leadership & Strategy
- Own and lead the site EHS management system.
- Act as the primary EHS point of contact and senior subject matter expert for the Abingdon site.
- Translate EHS strategy into site-level objectives, programs, and performance metrics.
- Provide day-to-day technical leadership, mentoring, and prioritization guidance to the site EHS Specialist.
- Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with UK environmental and occupational health and safety legislation.
- Maintain ownership of legal registers, regulatory applicability assessments, and site compliance documentation.
- Lead EHS audits, inspections, and regulatory interactions.
- Oversee risk assessment programs for manufacturing processes, laboratories, equipment, and new technology introductions.
- Establish and monitor site EHS KPIs, trends, and performance reporting.
- Hazardous Materials & Manufacturing Safety
- Own site hazardous materials, hazardous waste, and toxic and hazardous gas safety programs.
- Ensure effective management of toxic and hazardous gas systems.
- Provide EHS leadership for manufacturing, laboratory, and cleanroom safety programs.
- Training, Culture & Engagement
- Define the site EHS training strategy and ensure delivery of regulatory-required and role-based training programs.
- Champion a proactive safety culture through visible leadership and engagement with employees and contractors.
- Incident Management & Emergency Response
- Lead investigations of significant incidents, near-misses, and high-potential events.
- Serve as the site EHS lead during emergency events.
- Ensure site emergency preparedness programs are established and maintained.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Expert knowledge of UK EHS regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to lead site-level EHS programs.
- Strong risk assessment, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Proven experience managing EHS professionals.
- Excellent communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in Environmental Health & Safety.
- NEBOSH Diploma (Level 6) or equivalent professional qualification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience leading EHS programs in semiconductor manufacturing or advanced manufacturing environments.
- Experience implementing and sustaining HSG65 principles, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
- Chartered status (CMIOSH) or working toward chartership.
