We’re looking for an Optical Test Engineer to join our Snap Lab team at Snap Inc.!
What you’ll do:
You will be responsible for performing detailed optical measurements of waveguides used in AR applications. The role requires expertise in setting up and optimising metrology tools, performing acceptance testing, and establishing process control methods to ensure the waveguides meet stringent quality and performance standards.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Set up, align, and calibrate optical test equipment, ensuring that all systems are accurately configured and optimized to measure waveguide performance.
- Lead the acceptance testing process (e.g., GRR and validation), ensuring that they meet defined optical specifications and quality standards. Establish testing protocols for various stages of development.
- Implement process control techniques to ensure production consistency. Collect and perform statistical analysis on metrology data to identify trends, variances, and correlations to performance metrics.
- Analyze measurement data and correlate results to key performance indicators (KPIs). Produce comprehensive reports with actionable insights, working with cross-functional teams to refine and improve designs and processes.
- Take complete ownership of transferring latest waveguide test techniques and methods from the R&D phase to mass production. This includes ensuring that all testing technologies and processes are scalable and repeatable for high-volume manufacturing.
- Investigate discrepancies in test results and implement corrective actions. Work closely with optical engineers to optimize testing processes and improve waveguide performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (optical design, R&D and production) to identify areas for performance enhancement. Propose and implement improvements in metrology techniques and testing procedures.
- Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including test plans, procedures, data analysis reports, and process control records.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related Engineering field.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in optical testing, with a focus on waveguides or similar optical components.
- Proficiency in statistical data analysis using JMP or Minitab.
- Familiarity with process control, quality control, and acceptance testing in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose issues with optical systems and testing equipment.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to present data, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and document test procedures and findings.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ Years experience in optical testing of AR/VR/MR systems.
- Experience with mechanical design and rapid prototyping of jigs and fixtures.
- Experience in test automation (instrument control, data collection and analysis) using LabView, Matlab or Python
