About our client: Snap Care has had the pleasure of working with Axel for many years; he has recently turned 18 years old. He is at the heart of a loving and supportive family, and lives at home in Hendon with his parents. Axel is a real charmer and loves to be the centre of attention! He is very social, outgoing, and enjoys spending time with his family and peers. Music is a big passion; he loves listening to all genres; anything with a beat and rhythm! Axel has a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy, which affects all areas of his development, as a result he requires 24/7 support to meet his health, care and medical needs. He is a full-time wheelchair user, receives almost all his nutrition, fluid and medication via his PEG, may require suctioning (oral) and communicates using sounds, body language and facial expressions. Over the years, Axel’s parents have built a dedicated, dynamic, and skilled team of SEN professionals to support him 24/7. There is an opening for an experienced Waking Night Carer to join the team.
Overview of role: The Waking Night Carer will complete a handover and continue Axel’s evening and bedtime routine on a 1:1 basis, supporting with his personal care, and getting him comfy and settled in bed. The Waking Night Carer will prepare his PEG feed and carry out a flush when required. Axel requires full-time attention, often due to levels of discomfort throughout the night and requires regular repositioning, soothing and reassurance. You must be confident with manual handling, as hoists are not used to reposition Axel during the night due to the significant disruption they cause to his sleep. At times, he may also want a cuddle on the powered carer’s chair next to his bed, and small sips of water. Please note: Axel is 38kg, professional manual handling training provided to ensure you are confident in your ability to support Axel with moving and repositioning. A comfy, specialist chair is provided whilst on shift, with access to tea/coffee facilities and snacks. You will be in Axel’s bedroom throughout the night, tending to his needs as and when required. It is generally a very active waking night shift, although, if Axel is asleep, and all reports are completed, you are welcome to study / read etc.
Who this job would suit: A calm, patient, dedicated, and caring Waking Night Carer with excellent communication skills. You must have a genuine passion for supporting others; this will be your vocation. Axel needs his Waking Night Carer to be empathic and intuitive. You will enjoy working in a family setting, within a team, and be a team player. The Waking Night Carer must be available for a minimum of 2 shift each week, as continuity of care is paramount.
What’s great about this job: Axel will captivate your heart; he is a joy to support and work with. The working environment is positive and friendly, and you will be well supported in your role, and respected. Axel’s parents will invest in training to ensure you have all the skills required and feel confident in your ability. This role come highly recommended by previous and current Snap Care team members – an opportunity not to be missed.
