He finds joy in emergency vehicles, buses, dogs, farm animals, and music. Jamie is autistic and has associated learning difficulties. He also has dyspraxia, which affects tasks like dressing and impacts his continence. He primarily communicates using Makaton and PECS, though he does use some simple spoken words, such as “more.” Toilet training is ongoing. Jamie currently wears pads but will occasionally use the toilet for wees, with prompting and encouragement. Overview of role: We are looking for an SEN Support Worker to support Jamie consistently on Fridays during school holidays, starting from the October half term (Friday 31st October). The role also includes ad-hoc/bank night shifts, with the following confirmed dates: 1st to 8th September 2025 (inclusive), 14th to 22nd September 2025 (inclusive),21st to 26th November 2025 (inclusive) There will also be ongoing night shifts throughout the year — approximately one night per month — to provide the family with regular respite. During the school holiday Friday shifts, your focus will be on creating joyful and engaging experiences for Jamie. You’ll be out and about in the community, enjoying soft play sessions, fun bus rides, café lunches, and exploring local sites with the family’s English Heritage membership. The on-call night shifts begin at 7:30pm, when you’ll take over from the daytime Support Worker. You’ll support Jamie through his evening routine — bath time, getting into his pyjamas, winding down with stories, and then settling into bed. Jamie generally sleeps well, so you should be able to get a good night’s rest, though there may be occasional moments when he wakes and needs some gentle reassurance. For some of the on-call night shifts, Jamie’s parents will be away. In these instances, you will work closely with his small, trusted support team and have access to a list of emergency contacts to ensure everything runs smoothly and safely.
