Overview

PA / SEN Support Worker in York, YO23. Part-time and full-time hours available supporting a teenager with complex care needs. Up to £17.50 Gross per Hour.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 2:1 care alongside a team member or parent, with mornings including chest physio, stretching, personal care, dressing, breakfast and transport to school.
  • Support afterschool, weekends and school holidays with planning and participation in activities, outings and community engagement that reflect the young person’s interests.
  • Manage pain and comfort levels on days when needed and support recovery; promote independence and the young person’s participation in activities.
  • Be adaptable, creative and able to think outside the box to meet the needs of the young person.

What you will be doing

  • Advocate for independence and provide hands-on support for daily living tasks.
  • Help with routine care; support communication through Eye Gaze technology and signing as required.
  • Assist with nutritional and medical needs as directed (oral suctioning, chest physio, oxygen administration, PEG/J-tube feeding).
  • Observe and report changes in health and wellbeing, coordinating with the care team and family.

Qualifications

  • Essential: Previous experience supporting a young person with additional needs; confident in manual handling; non-smoker/vaper.
  • Desirable: Experience with dystonia, tube feeding, oral suctioning and chest physio.

Role Details

  • Location: York, YO23. Nearest station: York Railway Station.
  • Wage: £17.00 Weekdays, £17.50 Weekends (gross per hour).
  • Driver required: Yes, Automatic Adapted Vehicle (WAV) for use on duty.
  • Dates: ASAP start; term-time hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00–10:00 and 15:00–21:00; weekends/holidays: 08:00–20:00. Full and part-time contracts available.

About the client

Charlie is a 15-year-old with complex medical needs, including dyskinetic cerebral palsy, progressive dystonia, developmental delay, and sensory impairments. Charlie communicates primarily through Eye Gaze technology and enjoys football and gaming.
