About the Client/Child: Zed is a vibrant and sunny-natured teenager. He enjoys watching TV and movies, especially musical and theatre productions, reading Mr. Men books, and playing accessible games like animal bingo and puzzles on his iPad or phone. He loves being active and outdoors—feeding ducks, walking the family dog, or heading to the local pitch-and-putt. Swimming is another big passion, and he’s always up for a splash! Zed has Coffin-Lowry Syndrome, along with moderate to severe learning difficulties and physical disabilities. He also has ADHD, dyspraxia and presents similarly to a person with Down Syndrome. While verbal and communicative, Zed’s expressive language can be inconsistent. He needs support with dressing and personal care, including toileting, handwashing, and general hygiene, but he’s always keen to help where he can. Following a spinal injury in 2023 and a scoliosis diagnosis, Zed uses a wheelchair for longer distances and a walker at school, though he can walk short distances at home with support. While he needs someone to keep an eye on him when he’s up and about, he’s determined and eager to stay as mobile and independent as possible.

The Role at a Glance: Zed splits his time between his parent’s homes on an alternating week basis. A typical day starts with school pick-up, followed by accompanying Zed to his after-school activities such as swimming, drama, or music club, then home for some downtime and a snack. Zed’s PA will assist with the evening routine and complete a handover to Mum or Dad. During school holidays, there is plenty of scope to plan activities and outings further afield. The family welcomes parents to apply, as you can bring your child/children along during school holidays. Zed is currently on an educational pathway focused on developing life skills to support future independence.

This Job Would Suit: This role would suit a warm, fun, upbeat individual, with a calm patient nature. An interest in music, drama, outdoor walks, and creative play would be a bonus. Zed would thrive with someone who brings positivity, flexibility, and a genuine interest in supporting his development and growing independence. The ideal candidate will celebrate Zed’s achievements, offer encouragement through challenges, and embrace the theatrical, joyful world he lives in.

Why You’ll Love This Role: Zed’s enthusiasm for music, theatre, games, and the outdoors makes each day varied and enjoyable. The role is deeply rewarding, offering the chance to make a meaningful impact on his independence and confidence, while also enjoying shared activities like swimming, cooking, and even trips to the theatre. Opportunity for your own children to get involved in fun activities during the school holidays if applicable.
