Fantastic opportunity available for a professional, flexible, and open-minded Support Worker / PA to support a bright and engaging 19-year-old young man with a hearing impairment to access the community, build independence, and explore meaningful activities.
Offering: £19.00 Gross per Hour.
Driving Requirements: Yes, driver essential. Automatic vehicle available for use on duty.
Essential: Support worker experience with young people. Someone comfortable working in an environment with dogs.
Preferred: Experience supporting clients with hearing impairments, BSL experience, swimmer.
Start Date: ASAP
Days & Hours: One day per week to be mutually agreed with the client, 10.00am to 6.00pm (8-hour shift including paid 20-minute break).
Pets in Home: Yes, one small friendly dog.
About the Client: Introducing Jack, a thoughtful and engaging 19-year-old young man who enjoys going to the cinema, walks, cooking, and continuing to learn British Sign Language (BSL) alongside family members. Jack has bilateral hearing impairment and is a double cochlear implant user. He communicates verbally, although speech can sometimes be fast, quiet, or trail off, and Speech and Language Therapy input is in place to support Jack’s expressive communication. Jack lives at home with his family in Basingstoke and would like support to explore new hobbies, meaningful activities, and increase confidence and independence within the community.
The Role at a Glance: This role will involve supporting Jack to access the community safely and confidently, attending activities and appointments, encouraging independence, and helping identify and develop new hobbies and interests. You will provide companionship, encouragement, and practical support while maintaining professional boundaries and adapting communication approaches to Jack’s needs. A driver is essential for this role, and you should be comfortable supporting someone who uses cochlear implants and is continuing to develop communication skills. An interest in learning BSL, either formally or informally, is highly valued.
This Job Would Suit: This role would suit a calm, approachable and patient support worker with strong emotional intelligence and a genuine interest in supporting young adults to build confidence and independence. You will be flexible, open-minded and naturally encouraging, with the ability to develop trusting relationships while maintaining clear professional boundaries. Strong communication skills and prior experience working with young people are essential, along with a willingness to learn BSL. You should be adaptable, respectful and inclusive in your approach, including being comfortable and accepting of diverse pronouns and gender identities.
