Description

Start Date - Flexible

Working Model - Hybrid; on-site twice a month, minimum (once in our central Bristol HQ and once on-site with the client)

Why this role exists: This role exists because the programme it supports has reached a point where senior ownership and long-term thinking are essential. We’re investing in experienced data engineers who want to be close to impactful work, influence how platforms evolve, and play a meaningful role as systems move from delivery into sustained operation. It’s an opportunity to step into a role where your decisions matter, your experience shapes outcomes, and you’re trusted to lead through complexity, not just execute tasks. More broadly, it reflects our commitment to building a strong senior team at Snap that can continue to support cutting-edge client programmes over time, share knowledge across engagements, and help raise delivery standards as our work and business continues to expand.

What you’ll be doing...

You’ll play a key role in designing and running production-grade data pipelines that connect operational systems to the enterprise data platform, supporting both regulatory initiatives and day-to-day business operations. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Owning end-to-end pipelines across ingest – transform – load – application integration, with hands-on orchestration and production support.
  • Taking ownership of key platform integrations, including the existing Zendesk API integration, ensuring data flows reliably between systems and stepping in confidently when issues arise.
  • Querying and operating the cloud data platform confidently (workload sizing, cost/concurrency trade-offs, and recovery/rollback using platform features).
  • Working closely with PMO and stakeholders to prioritise, communicate clearly, and finish work, especially when priorities change.
  • Contributing to Agile delivery (two-week sprints, ticketing, demos/retros) and raising the bar on delivery discipline and transparency.
  • Providing day-to-day technical leadership of a workstream and coaching more junior engineers when needed.

In your first 3–6 months, success might look like:

  • Embedding quickly with PMO and technical leads; trusted as a go-to person for your workstream.
  • Ensuring pipelines are live and stable, with clear run-books, monitoring, and a pragmatic approach to rollbacks and incident handling.
  • A smooth transition from project delivery into operational support, with visible progress on a realistic, prioritised backlog.

What you’ll need to succeed...

We’re looking for someone who brings a mix of deep hands-on cloud data engineering, strong SQL, and consulting-grade communication in complex environments. You might be a great fit if you have:

  • Strong, hands-on ETL/ELT experience using Matillion, including building and orchestrating production-grade pipelines end-to-end (ingestion, transformation, loading, and monitoring).
  • Practical experience working with Snowflake as a cloud data platform, with the ability to confidently query data, understand warehouse sizing and cost/performance trade-offs, and use platform features to support reliability and recovery.
  • Very strong SQL skills, with the ability to reason through complex data logic, performance considerations, and edge cases.
  • Experience working in enterprise environments, where governance, change control, and reliability matter; exposure to regulated industries (such as financial services) is advantageous.
  • A consulting mindset: you communicate proactively, manage expectations well, prioritise effectively, and are comfortable pushing back constructively when required.
  • Experience integrating data platforms with operational or downstream systems using APIs (nice to have).

This role might not be the right fit if you’re looking for:

  • Narrow, single-tool transformation work without orchestration or production responsibility.
  • A static backlog with rarely-changing priorities.
  • A role without stakeholder interaction or the need to push back and negotiate scope.
