The Opportunity
- Lead the implementation of proactive Health, Safety and Environmental initiatives at site to ensure legislative compliance and a continually improving HSE performance and culture.
- Be the on-site “Subject Matter Expert” and provide Health Safety & Environmental expertise & guidance for all personnel.
- Ensure Health, Safety and Environmental responsibilities are understood and carried out daily.
- Take the lead with any Health, Safety and Environmental issue at site and ensure that all staff are complying with the company procedures and legislative standards.
How You Will Impact Smurfit Westrock
- Lead the site H&S Committee meetings, listening and working collaboratively with employees at site.
- Work with the Regional H&S Leader to deliver health and safety strategies and develop internal, site-based policies.
- Develop action plans and track progress in line with the central & local HS&E strategy.
- Assist and provide guidance on carrying out risk assessments and considering how risks could be reduced. Follow up on resultant actions to completion.
- Assist and support site with implementation of environmental impacts and aspect assessments.
- Coordinate external audits for accreditations including ISO14001 and ISO45001.
- Provide the site with support and guidance with operational learning events.
- Assist with regular site and equipment inspections to check policies, procedures and working practices are being implemented correctly.
- Provide internal and external audit support.
- Manage the Safety Excellence System (SES) and Environmental e2 Excellence System.
- Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of HS&E legislation/developments and brief teams of any changes.
- Advise teams on specialist areas such as fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, appropriate guarding of machinery and occupational diseases.
- Conducting internal audits and effectively plan to address any gaps noted.
What You Need To Succeed
- Knowledge of H&S legislation with the ability to understand and interpret legislation as appropriate to the site.
- Proven experience as a trainer.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Required: Minimum of 2-5 years experience of working within H&S specialism.
- Required: Minimum of 2 years experience of working with environmental management systems.
- Required: NEBOSH General Certificate or part qualified.
