SMT GB are seeking a responsible, proactive, and highly organised Senior Yard Person to support both internal and external service operations. This newly created position plays a key role in ensuring that all yard activities meet the exceptionally high standards as is expected of a new Machine Preparation Centre.
Key Responsibilities- Team Coordination – Lead and support the yard team across a range of daily operational activities, in turn supporting the Stores and Logistics Supervisor.
- Machine Processing – Oversee the timely and accurate booking‑in of new machines, ensuring all records are completed to a high standard.
- Quality Presentation – Maintain exceptional levels of machine presentation, including high‑quality valeting and precise preparation for despatch.
- Stock Parking Efficiency – Manage yard layout and parking to maximise space utilisation and ensure safe, efficient movement of all machines on site.
- Incident Reporting – Report and conduct initial investigations into any incidents, promoting safe working practices and driving continuous improvement.
- Compliance – Ensure all yard operations follow internal procedures and comply with Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality ISO standards.
- Task Allocation – Assign daily tasks to the yard team and ensure timely and accurate completion.
- Final Checks & Documentation – Complete final inspections of valeted machines and ensure despatch documentation is uploaded correctly and in line with process requirements.
- Yard Maintenance – Support general yard upkeep and housekeeping, maintaining a clean, safe, and professional environment at all times.

- Maintain good housekeeping standards at all times.
- Ensure sound preparation (staffing / safe working area) for loading and unloading of equipment, support incoming deliveries and manage local yard maintenance.
- Oversee timely, accurate and efficient booking in of new machines as they arrive from the docks and highlight any discrepancies.
- Support the MPC Logistics and Stores Supervisor with yard efficiencies of staff allocation, machine parking and yard maintenance.
- Assist in stocktake audit and yard inventory levels (e.g., tyres and associated parts) at intervals set by the company.
- Apply an effective and efficient running of the wash bay facility, ensuring that machinery and equipment is washed and valeted to an exceptionally high standard in accordance with workflow priorities.
- Effective management of waste ensuring it is correctly segregated and that contractors are not utilising SMT site skips.
- Advise management of any performance issues or process challenges to maintain or improve day‑to‑day way of work.
- Engage with our quality systems and DDR process for continuous improvement.
- Carry out any other duties deemed necessary by the MPC Logistics and Stores Supervisor or MPC Manager.
