About the Material Handler Role:
The Material Handler is responsible for receiving, storing, picking, and packing spare parts in accordance with standard procedures and order-specific instructions, under general supervision.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Transport materials from receiving or storage areas to shipping or designated locations; unpack crates and containers as needed.
- Load outbound shipments, ensuring materials are properly packaged and stacked to prevent damage.
- Assist with ongoing cycle counts and annual physical inventory processes.
- Comply with warehouse quality control standards and procedures.
- Operate forklifts safely, ensuring all loads are stable and secure.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including sweeping, dusting, and mopping.
- Follow all safety protocols, departmental procedures, and corporate policies.
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to follow standard work instructions with reliability and punctuality.
- Strong multitasking and time management skills; able to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Flexible and adaptable approach to changing assignments and priorities.
- Proficient in English, both written and verbal, with effective communication skills.
- Solid math skills and understanding of weights and measures.
- Basic proficiency in word processing and spreadsheets.
- Strong working knowledge of computerized inventory systems.
- Experience using RF scanners for inventory tracking and management.
Education and Training:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 3–5 years of warehouse experience, including proficiency with computerized inventory tracking systems.
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods of walking, stooping, bending, reaching, and occasional sitting.
- Frequent pushing, pulling, lifting, and moving of objects up to 50 pounds.
- Manual dexterity for repetitive hand, finger, and wrist movements.
- Capable of climbing step ladders up to 15 feet.
- Ability to operate a vehicle as needed.
Work Environment:
- Primarily based in a warehouse setting, with exposure to varying temperatures.
- Regular exposure to vibrations, fumes, gases, and moving mechanical equipment.
- Occasional handling of potentially hazardous chemicals or substances.
- Noise levels range from moderate to very loud, depending on tasks and equipment used.
Tools and Equipment:
- Operates equipment, including forklift trucks, hand pallet jacks, label machines, packing machines, computers, and calculators.
- Steel-toed safety shoes must be worn at all times while in the warehouse.
