We are looking for an experienced Health & Safety Manager with strong CDM knowledge to support engineering and construction projects. This is a part-time opportunity (3 days per week) for an initial 6-month contract, supporting live projects within a high-hazard engineering environment. You will work closely with project teams, customers, and contractors to ensure CDM compliance, contractor assurance, and strong site safety practices. This role provides support and assurance to the existing SHE leadership function and does not carry sole duty holder accountability.

The Role

  • Provide practical Health & Safety and CDM support across operational works and live projects, helping ensure compliance with CDM Regulations and company SHEQ management systems.
  • Focus on assurance, coordination, and documentation review, working collaboratively with internal teams and supply chain partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support CDM compliance across multiple engineering and construction projects.
  • Maintain proactive engagement with customer counterparts.
  • Prepare RAMS and Construction Phase Health & Safety Plans for engineering works.
  • Review contractor RAMS and safety documentation.
  • Assist with contractor assurance and site safety oversight.
  • Conduct site inspections and safety tours.
  • Support incident reporting and follow-up actions.
  • Contribute to SHE compliance and improvement activities.
  • Work closely with project managers, supervisors, and contractors to achieve SHE objectives.
  • Provide practical and proportionate H&S advice within engineering and construction environments.

About You

We’re looking for someone who can work independently, engage confidently with site teams, and bring practical CDM expertise.

Essential:

  • Proven experience in a Health & Safety Manager or Senior H&S Advisor role.
  • Strong working knowledge of CDM 2015.
  • Experience reviewing RAMS and contractor documentation.
  • NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (minimum).

Desirable:

  • Background in construction, engineering, marine, or industrial environments.
  • NEBOSH Diploma.
  • IOSH membership (or working towards).

Security & Site Access

This role is based within a secure defence facility. Appointment will therefore be subject to successful security vetting clearance, DBS checks, eligibility to work in the UK, and compliance with site access controls.
