Smith's Detection is looking for an Image Interpretation Training (IIT) Specialist to join our Global Training & Documentation team.
This is a unique opportunity to help develop and expand our industry-leading Image Interpretation Training portfolio, supporting security screeners across aviation, critical infrastructure, corrections, transportation, and other high-security environments worldwide.
Our innovative digital training solutions are designed to take learners from having little or no experience in X-ray image interpretation through to operational competency and certification readiness.

As an IIT Specialist, you will play a key role in developing training content, supporting customer engagement, delivering demonstrations and trials, gathering market intelligence, and helping shape the future of image interpretation training.
About the Role
Working within a global environment, you'll collaborate closely with Product Management, Service, Sales, Marketing, and Training teams to ensure our training solutions remain innovative, effective, and aligned with customer needs.
You'll combine your operational screening knowledge with a passion for learning, training, and customer engagement to help drive the continued growth of the IIT portfolio.
This role offers a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in aviation security, image interpretation, X-ray screening, or training delivery who wants to influence the next generation of security training solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and continuous improvement of Image Interpretation Training products and services.
- Contribute to the design, testing, rollout, and evaluation of new training solutions.
- Develop and enhance training content, exercises, and learning pathways for the Virtual Training Centre and other digital learning platforms.
- Maintain training documentation, user guides, and supporting materials.
- Monitor product performance and recommend enhancements based on customer and learner feedback.
- Customer Engagement & Business Development
- Support customer demonstrations, workshops, product trials, proof-of-concept activities, and training events.
- Build strong relationships with customers, industry partners, and academic institutions.
- Gather customer feedback, operational requirements, and market intelligence to identify future opportunities.
- Participate in customer meetings, conferences, and industry events to promote Smiths Detection training solutions.
- Provide subject matter expertise to support bids, proposals, and commercial discussions.
- Training & Operational Expertise
- Support learners and customers in developing image interpretation competency.
- Apply industry best practice in threat recognition, X-ray image analysis, and screening operations.
- Support the launch of new training products and initiatives in partnership with Sales, Marketing, and Service teams.
- Contribute to reporting, forecasting, project planning, and business development activities.
About You
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about developing people, improving security screening standards, and creating engaging learning experiences.
Essential Experience
- Experience as an aviation security screener, security operator, image analyst, or similar role.
- Strong understanding of image interpretation and screening operations.
- Knowledge of aviation security, checkpoint operations, or comparable security environments.
- Ability to engage confidently with customers and stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft office applications
- Can travel internationally up to 1 week per month
Desirable Experience
- Experience delivering training, coaching, mentoring, or instruction.
- Experience using Smiths Detection screening equipment.
- Knowledge of digital learning platforms, e-learning systems, or training technologies.
- Exposure to customer demonstrations, product trials, or commercial engagements.
- Understanding of threat recognition methodologies and image interpretation best practice.
