About the role
- Responsible for the delivery of health, safety and environmental risk strategy of the business as set by the Head of Safety & Risk.
- Delivery of ISO certified safety and environmental management systems.
- Subject Matter Expert for Smiths News on Health and Safety, Environmental risk and Safety Culture. This includes all road transport and operational yard safety at Smiths News and third-party locations where Smiths News operate.
- Ownership of company health and safety policies, training, and audit regimes, always ensuring that suitable and sufficient arrangements are in place and managed accordingly.
- Responsible for the Delivery of Human Factors and Safety Culture Awareness program to the business in conjunction with the head of safety and risk, empowering the business to embrace and embed positive behaviours reinforced through a just safety culture.
- Leading positive relationships and dialogue with principal internal and external stakeholders who have an interest in the Smiths News business from a safe and legal perspective (Health and Safety Executive, DVSA, Local Authorities, Trade Associations and Bodies etc)
- Ensuring that all Incidents and accidents are fully investigated by trained competent colleagues, with all incidents escalated according to the nature or severity of the incident. Liaising accordingly with external stakeholders such as the emergency services and media.

About you
- At least Nebosh level 3 or equivalent
- Qualifications and experience with ISO 45001 and ISO integrated systems.
- Auditing qualifications and experience.
- Environmental Risk qualifications.
- Extensive Accident Investigation experience including full root cause analysis
- Highly effective communication skills both orally and written, with ability to negotiate and influence at senior level
- A valid UK driving license (company car may be provided).
