Working with limited supervision to support all CAD to FAB R&D development projects for all product types including filters, circulators, isolators and couplers. Working with members of the design team to process R&D RF wafers (thick film conductor and resistor deposition, firing, dicing and LASER ablation). Assembly of components such as circulators, isolators, filters (lumped element, SSS and cavity) and couplers. Support the test and qualification lab by performing dynamic and thermal qualification testing for internal and external customers. Provide immediate feedback to stakeholders when product fails or major issues encountered. This is a unique opportunity for an individual with experience in wafer processing and RF product evaluation, preferably with some RF test exposure, to work in an exciting and dynamic hands-on role within a state-of-the-art thick films clean rooms and Test Laboratory at our Dundee, Scotland, UK site.

Responsibilities:

  • Support contributes and promotes a safe work environment.
  • Works under limited supervision to process RF wafers such as ferrite and alumina using Au, Ag and high resistance pastes in our CAD to FAB facility.
  • In support of Senior filter design engineers, assembly and disassembly of prototype filter products.
  • In support of Senior ferrite design engineers, assembly and disassembly of prototype ferrite-based products.
  • Procures items necessary for testing and prototype assembly of RF components.
  • Contributes to the design and development and processing of assembly fixtures for RF wafer-based components.
  • Set up, process equipment, inspection equipment and monitoring devices for processing and test.
  • Creates or contributes to test procedures and test reports to support prototype testing, de-risking and certification of new and existing products.
  • Reviews test data for accuracy and quality prior to delivery to stakeholders.
  • Notifies stakeholders at risk events or test failures in a timely manner and generally keeps them updated with status.
  • Keeps projects on time and notifies stakeholders of slippage of agreed timelines and suggests possible measures to mitigate impact.
  • Prepares test and failure reports and can articulate and present results to stakeholders in a professional manner.
  • Supports calibration and routine maintenance of all process and test equipment and supports Lab visits and audits when needed.
  • Contributes flexibly to the general needs and output of the CAD to FAB and Test Lab and overall business priorities when required.

Additional Information

Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Some experience in processing technical ceramics such as ferrite, garnet and alumina.
  • Some experience in using thick film inks, both conductor and resistors.
  • Ability to understand technical documents and drawings.
  • Some knowledge of passive RF products, test methodologies and critical specifications.
  • Understanding of inspection equipment and techniques including high end Keyence optical tools, ZYGO profilometer, SEM, EDS, XRF.
  • A working knowledge of Environmental and Dynamic testing including Bake Ovens/Thermal cycling ovens, Humidity chambers, EMC testing, Vibration & Mechanical Shock systems would be an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of Space/Defense/Aerospace industry specifications and Qualification/certification standards.
  • Knowledge of 3D modeling and drawing packages (e.g. Solidworks) would be beneficial.
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis utilising standard problem-solving tools, processes and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of statistical methods and tools to determine product adherence/conformance to specification.
  • Soldering and gluing skills, manual dexterity, and experience of working with small mechanical assemblies, including visual inspection.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Microsoft Office skills for reporting and presenting test data e.g. Powerpoint, Word & Excel.
