We currently have an exciting opportunity for an HSE Lead to join our UK Operations. This role plays a critical part in ensuring compliance with company and regulatory Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements across assigned site(s). The role will be based at our Slough site, with regular travel required to Shannon, Manchester, and Aberdeen. The HSE Lead will work closely with Site Leadership and cross‑functional teams to manage site‑based HSE management systems, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and promote a strong safety culture. Reporting to the HSE Country / Regional Manager, this position involves managing multiple priorities, supporting local and regional HSE objectives, and maintaining consistent standards across multiple locations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Partner with Site Leadership and functional teams to drive continuous improvement in HSE performance across multiple locations.
- Manage and maintain site‑based Internal and/or ISO HSE Management Systems (ISO 14001 & ISO 45001).
- Identify opportunities to improve HSE performance beyond legal and company compliance.
- Complete HSE reporting for programs and incidents within Smiths / John Crane systems.
- Lead site incident management, including classification, investigation, and corrective action tracking.
- Support planning and execution of Safety Leading Indicator programs and global HSE initiatives.
- Develop and implement safety programs based on incident trends and audit findings.
- Ensure site HSE training programs address competency gaps and improve leadership engagement.
- Support Contractor Safety Management and Permit‑to‑Work processes.
- Ensure emergency management practices are robust, tested, and clearly understood.
- Lead and/or support internal and external HSE audits; manage audit findings and actions.
- Collaborate with peers across the business to align HSE and company objectives across Slough, Shannon, Manchester, and Aberdeen.
Qualifications
- Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 3–5 years’ experience in an HSE role with strong knowledge of HSE regulations and requirements.
- Working knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated capability in problem solving, process improvement, and change management.
- Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
- Good knowledge of local and national HSE legislation.
- Willingness to travel.
