Job Description

As sustainability becomes increasingly important to our customers, regulators and stakeholders, we are seeking an experienced Global Sustainability Manager to help shape and deliver the next phase of our sustainability journey.

Reporting to the Head of HSE & Sustainability, you will play a key role in delivering our global sustainability and ESG strategy.

Working across international operations, supply chain, engineering and product teams, you will help drive environmental performance, regulatory compliance and responsible business practices across our global organisation.

This role offers significant visibility across the business and provides the opportunity to influence senior stakeholders on topics critical to our long‑term success.

We can only consider those that would be eligible for UK SC level clearance.

  • What You’ll Be Doing
  • Support the development and implementation of Smiths Detection's sustainability and ESG strategy.
  • Drive delivery of initiatives focused on decarbonisation, circularity and environmental impact reduction.
  • Lead programmes relating to carbon emissions, energy efficiency, waste reduction and water management.
  • Manage carbon accounting and emissions reporting in line with the GHG Protocol.
  • Support science‑based target development and implementation.
  • Lead and support ESG disclosures and reporting requirements, including CSRD, ISSB, CDP and TCFD.
  • Coordinate compliance activities relating to REACH, Ro HS, SCIP, Conflict Minerals and other environmental legislation.
  • Partner with Procurement, Engineering, Operations, Quality, Finance and HR teams to embed sustainability into business processes.
  • Support supplier sustainability programmes and responsible sourcing initiatives.
  • Drive improvements in ESG data quality, management systems and reporting capabilities.
  • Support ISO 14001 and related assurance activities.
  • Monitor emerging sustainability regulations and ensure organisational readiness.
  • Develop meaningful sustainability reporting and presentations for senior leadership teams.

Qualifications

We are seeking an experienced sustainability professional who can combine strategic thinking with practical delivery.

  • You Will Bring
  • Degree qualification in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Proven sustainability experience within a manufacturing, engineering, industrial or technology environment.
  • Strong knowledge of ESG frameworks and reporting standards including GHG Protocol, CDP, TCFD, ISSB and CSRD.
  • Hands‑on experience in carbon accounting and emissions management.
  • Experience managing environmental compliance requirements including REACH, Ro HS and related product legislation.
  • Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Excellent analytical, communication and presentation abilities.
  • Experience working within global, matrix organisations.
  • Preferred Experience
  • Lifecycle Assessment (LCA)
  • ISO 14001 auditing or implementation experience
  • Sustainability software and ESG reporting platforms
