The Solution Consultant Role is a key position in the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Narcotics, and Explosives (CBRNE) Portfolio, Innovation and Digital (PID) Department. You will report into the CBRNE Value Proposition Manager and will be required to perform a wide range of tasks in the development, technical support, and commercial exploitation of all current and legacy CBRNE detection products. Your responsibilities will also extend globally to support all of Smiths Detection's regional teams with particular focus on generating maximum income, increasing market share, and improving customer satisfaction/experience while aligning to the Division and Group's overall portfolio strategy. The role will also be aligned to provide strong collaboration with the Marketing team in the development of collateral, execution of campaigns, and in market research.

Responsibilities Duties:

  • Contribute to maintenance of resources necessary to deliver information on CBRNE products efficiently and effectively to the PID, manufacturing facility, regions, markets, contract/client, affiliates and partners where applicable.
  • Gather data for inclusion in the outward-looking Market Requirements Documents (MRD) and the inward-looking Product Requirements Documents (PRD).
  • Provide input to the Product Lifecycle Process (PLP) and associated milestones for the CBRNE portfolio in a timely and proactive manner.
  • Act as a liaison between the PID, Sales, Programs, marketing and Service to assist in the creation of product technical specifications.
  • Provide input from all departments to the PID development teams, such that New Product Introductions (NPI) meet sales and business objectives.
  • Support Central, Regional and Market Sales and Pursuit teams personnel in key situations for Bids & Proposals, providing the technical support and Product Compliance input when necessary.
  • Maintain through periodic review relevant technical content of sales support and sales/distributor training materials, and update internal sales documentation resources where necessary.
  • Analyse market information to provide input to sales plans, including market segmentation, targeting and positioning.
  • Analyse product (function, performance and technology) related customer complaints and support action teams to resolve.
  • Support product launches and product promotions in line with PLP milestone requirements.
  • Identify and communicate voice of the customer (VOC) and critical customer requirements to the business.
  • Build relationships with key internal/external decision makers and government executives.
  • Contribute to product and/or Solution specific proposals, presentations, concepts and solutions to decision makers (internal and external).
  • Interface with customer facing teams to build a reference list and compile customer use cases.
  • Work independently and with Industry segment managers to analyse competitors’ strengths, weaknesses and pricing to advise on price setting and ad hoc opportunities for accreting margin.
  • Provide product focused input to Sales, Service and Programmes teams in support of large and bespoke commercial Sales, Programmes and Projects.
  • Responsible for leading initiative to track CBRNE product consumable demand and become primary Value Proposition team member for consumable lifecycle management.
  • Build cross product variant knowledge and technical expertise through collaboration with Engineering and Science leads to bolster Value Proposition team resilience.
  • Provide input to externally funded research projects during the proposal stage, active project phase, and in final reporting.
  • Lead and assist on customer trials, demonstrations, exhibitions, Business Development, and resolve customer technical issues occasionally associated with international travel.

Qualifications Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced degree in Science or Technical Engineering Discipline, Marketing, Business Management, or relevant field.
  • At least 3 years experience in detection product use, development or business management.
  • Financial experience and know how is an advantage.
  • Understanding of the different aspects of a business (Customer service, Manufacturing, Operations and installation, Purchasing, Sales, project, Marketing and R&D).
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office software suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project) and Visio.
  • Excellent communication skills particularly in English (fluently spoken and written) in addition to the / any local language spoken at the place of work.
